Welcome to the Wednesday Wink!
This week, check out "True or False" and classes online now, learn about Calls from Santa, and more.
| | Starting today, we're introducing a new section of "Wednesday Wink" called "True or False." Here, we'll attempt to address common misconceptions about WFCAA programs and initiatives and shed some light on our efforts to ensure the Center for Active Aging continues to provide warm, inclusive, and enriching experiences for everyone. | |
True or False: Since July 1, the WFCAA has introduced new fees for programs and classes.
False. Although we offer a few free drop-in programs and classes, most of our offerings have always included a nominal fee. However, in regard to classes that are not free, we have not introduced any new fees nor have we implemented any fee increases since July 1.
On a positive note, the only new fee currently scheduled for 2026 will be for Open Studio. Current studio students advocated for the new fee to cover rising material and equipment costs.
| | |
True or False: Instructors set the rates for their classes.
True. Our instructors determine when/if to increase or decrease the fees for their respective classes. This practice also applies to classes that are currently free but may require the introduction of a fee in the future to offset an increase in the cost of materials.
Our next round of classes begins in January 2026. When our instructors submit their descriptions and other information for those classes, they will set the participant fee.

The contractor has ordered a replacement compressor. Once the initial repair is complete, they will assess the system to ensure no additional issues remain.
We will provide updates as new information becomes available.
Thank you for your patience.

As we approach Veteran’s Day, we'd like to recognize our members who served in the military and thank them for their service.
If you're a veteran, please take a moment to submit a photo of yourself from your time in the military, so we can honor you.
What to submit:
- Your first and last name
- Years of service
- Branch of military service
- Photo of you when you served
Please email this information, including your attached photo, to Jacob Phipps.
The submission deadline is Monday, Nov. 3.
| | |
We want your input!
If you haven't already, please take a moment to share your thoughts and opinions on current WFCAA initiatives and preferences for future programming by completing a brief survey.
Designed to assess members’ current satisfaction with the WFCAA and solicit ideas for future programs and events, the questionnaire is available through October and takes less than three minutes to complete.
For more information, email Monica Lileton.

Volunteer as Santa or a Santa’s Helper during “Calls from Santa” Thursday, Dec. 4 | 5:30-7:30 pm
Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St.
The holiday season is right around the corner, and we’re looking for a few jolly volunteers to help spread cheer during the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department's annual "Calls from Santa" event.
We need volunteers to play Santa and Santa’s Helpers to make phone calls to local children who have signed up for a call from the North Pole!
Don’t worry - scripts will be provided, so there’s no pressure to improvise. Just bring your best holiday spirit, warm voice, and a little laughter to help make this a magical evening for our youngest residents. Refreshments will also be provided.
If you’d like to be part of this fun tradition, please contact Casey Weidner at 919-435-9555.
Thank you for helping us keep the holiday magic alive in Wake Forest!
