Greetings Connect K8 Families,
We missed the opportunity to share "Shanah Tova!" with those in our community who celebrated Rosh Hashanah, and an easy fast during Yom Kippur! To learn more, check out this article from Britannica Kids, which can toggle between grade levels!
Next, we want to honor Hispanic Heritage Month! The Library of Congress has a multitude of resources to learn more and celebrate the rich history of Hispanic Heritage in the US.
We would also like to acknowledge "Orange Shirt Day" to honor and remember the impact of Residential Schools on Indigenous Children in both the US and Canada, and to support the preservation and education of Indigenous Culture and Languages. You can learn more HERE and HERE! Everyone is invited to support by wearing an Orange shirt to school on Fri Sept. 29 and Oct. 2nd!
With the Multi-Cultural Fair fast approaching, these are all excellent ways to share mirrors and windows with our children, and to learn more about the many cultures to which we belong!
Finally, we would like to share that we have observed an increase in behaviors from members of our community of all ages that feel disconnecting (unkind language, assumptions without information, a resistance to problem solving, triangulation, etc.). We recognize that the world is in a very sensitive place for many valid reasons, and the aftermath of the pandemic continues to affect our daily lives and mental health. Over anything else, Da Vinci Connect is special because we have a strong history of leading with empathy and treating each other with compassion. We'd like to share a local opportunity with a Da Vinci Connect Parent Alum and Parenting Educator, Sarah Straton, that can support families in continuing to lead with empathy while holding limits and maintaining strong connections. You can learn more in the flyer below and sign up for the series HERE.
