Less than one week until Alice Cohen's workshop... You don't want to miss it!

Free and open to new and returning volunteers, working with students at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Participants will learn about key aspects of child and adolescent development. How are students growing socially and emotionally, and how does that influence their relationships and their learning? What kinds of behaviors can we as tutors and mentors expect to see in our students and how can we best support them?

Alice will provide you with tools and strategies to help you understand and connect with the students you are working with. She will also share best practices for engagement, sustaining attention, supporting resilience, and dealing with conflicts.

Peer tutors gathered Monday afternoon for an orientation led by CSV's intern from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Jenna Robbins. Students shared strategies for effective tutoring, learned about the benefits of peer tutoring for tutors and tutees, and participated in community-building activities. They overwhelmingly expressed a desire to share their knowledge and help students understand the material as reasons for joining this year's cohort. More than forty peer tutors will provide much-needed support in CSV's upper school Learning Centers and the Tutoring Center at CRLS, where they will be matched for weekly sessions with a student needing academic coaching.

We have an immediate need for volunteers to serve as one-to-one tutors and mentors with high school students of all levels and needs. Trained volunteers will provide individualized help to improve students’ skills and knowledge in specific subjects. Tutoring takes place in the library at the Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School.
