Thank you for reading the Quirk Alert, a newsletter by and for Autistics, but open to all who wish to stay informed about our vibrant community! We are grateful this month to have you as part of our team.

We’re also thrilled to share that our nonprofit application has been submitted and is currently pending. As we wait, we’re moving forward with programming designed for everyone—whether you identify as neurodivergent, are exploring your identity, or are a supportive ally. Here’s a snapshot of what’s going on and what's coming up:

• Autism On the Go: Join us for regular virtual and in-person meetups to connect and build friendships within the Autistic community.

• Leadership Program: Gain skills for board membership and advocacy, empowering a new generation of neurodivergent leaders.

• Legislative Advocacy: Be part of our efforts to create meaningful change in the upcoming legislative session.

• Things Relevant to Our Community: This group is by and for us! What do you want to see us do? Let us know: info@ausimonthego.org

New AOG Employment Support Groups for Autistics and Other Adults with Disabilities

We're excited to announce the kickoff of the AOG Employment Support Group, created to help individuals navigate employment accommodations. Our inaugural meeting will focus on employment accommodations, including how to approach them effectively.

We encourage community members to share their experiences with disclosing disabilities for interview and/or employment accommodations, whether you have prior experience or are exploring it for the first time. You’re welcome to voice any questions, concerns, or thoughts on disclosure and disability accommodations as well.

Below are two resources from the Job Accommodation Network (JAN) on crafting effective accommodation request letters. These resources are valuable for anyone seeking guidance in this area:

We look forward to connecting with you and supporting each other through these discussions!

How a stunning 11th-hour race to save a Texas death row inmate from execution in 'shaken baby' case unfolded | CNN

Texas death row inmate Robert Roberson sat praying in a cell Thursday night just feet from the execution chamber where he was set to be put to death for the murder of his toddler - even as the state and his attorneys exchanged frantic 11th-hour legal maneuvers to determine his fate before the clock ran out.

His behavior in the emergency room – viewed as uncaring by doctors, nurses and the police, who believed it a sign of his guilt – was actually a manifestation of autism spectrum disorder, which went undiagnosed until 2018, according to his attorneys.
