Creating Space for What's to Come
There’s something about spring that makes us notice what we’ve been holding onto. It’s an invitation to clear out what no longer fits, what no longer serves, and what we’ve simply held onto for too long. When we do, we make room for what's next.
There’s something deeply spiritual about this kind of clearing. It’s not just about what we’re getting rid of; it’s about what God might be doing in us through it. Scripture reminds us that He’s present not only in the growth but also in the pruning, the refining, and even the letting go. In Ecclesiastes 3:6, we’re reminded that there is “a time to keep and a time to throw away… a time to hold on and a time to let go.” And while those seasons can feel uncertain, they’re often where God is quietly and gently leading us forward, even when we don’t have the full picture yet.
For placing families, you created embryos with the hope of building a family—holding onto the vision that one day those embryos would be born into your family as siblings to one another, a future you deeply longed for. That journey often came with significant emotional, physical, and financial investment. Because of that, you may find yourself holding onto your embryos for a long time. Sometimes it’s because the decision feels unclear. Sometimes it’s because you’re unsure if you’re ready. And sometimes, it’s simply because letting go feels too painful.
For adoptive families, you may also know what it feels like to let go, releasing the path to parenthood you once envisioned and opening your heart to a different and unexpected way of becoming a family. That space can hold grief, longing, and uncertainty, even as hope begins to take root in new ways.
And yet, in this sacred exchange of releasing and receiving, something beautiful begins to unfold. Space is created. Space for healing. Space for possibility. Space for a new story to begin.
Spring reminds us that letting go is not the end of the story. Sometimes, it is the very place where something new begins to grow.
