Every night I get out my phone and pray Night Prayer. I do use the Church of England service because the language is so familiar that I am able to let the words wash over me as I pray.
At the conclusion of the service there are a series of short prayers and the final one is:
Come with the dawning of the day
All: and make yourself known in the breaking of the bread.
This prayer is optional and I used to pray it if I knew I was going to receive Holy Communion the next day.
But since the pandemic and the earlier restrictions on our worship I now pray this every night.
I pray this in the expectant hope that we will all be gathering together as a community. So the Church, the Body of Christ, will be nourished with the sacrament of Christ’s Body.
I pray this in thanksgiving. Even though we are not all able to gather to receive Jesus in the consecrated bread, I give thanks that Christ is made known to us, each and every day.
I pray this in joy. Even though there are days when I feel that things are broken, I remember that God’s Church is still present and that Christ’s Love is continuing to break into this world through the witness of The Church of St. Michael & St. George.
So I continue to pray:
Come with the dawning of the day
All: and make yourself known in the breaking of the bread.
On Sunday, 27th September those who have been unable to worship in person will be able pick up a Home Communion packet to take home and receive the sacrament in their household.
Sunday 27th September is the St. Michael’s Day parade. At 11 AM we will gather in our cars to meet and greet one another at a safe distance, see Laurie’s email for more details.
Near the beginning of the parade there will be a station that will have the Home Communion packet for those who have not been able to join us for in-person worship during this pandemic. In the packet will be the consecrated bread and an order of service for you to use in your household. Please register by Wednesday, 23rd September so that we can prepare all the packs for your household.
Come with the dawning of the day
All: and make yourself known in the breaking of the bread.
God bless
