The Ark's Outreach to Israeli Families in Chicago
In response to the ongoing war in Israel, The Ark's mission to serve the Chicagoland Jewish community has taken on an added dimension of urgency and compassion. With assistance from partners like the Michael Reese Health Trust, we are extending our services and mobilizing support for Israeli families finding refuge in Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
Recognizing the mental health needs of school children recently resettled in the area from Israel, The Ark has formed a partnership with local schools, such as Solomon Schechter in Northbrook. Our goal is to connect these students with therapists, aiding their emotional well-being as part of our Child and Family Wellness Program. Additionally, this program offers families access to the full range of Ark services, ensuring a comprehensive support network for those facing significant upheaval.

On Tuesday, November 14th, representatives from The Ark's staff proudly participated in the "March for Israel" in Washington, D.C., alongside more than 250,000 individuals from Jewish communities nationwide. We stand together in solidarity, united in our mission to uplift every member of our community and to ensure that in this struggle, no one is alone.
Our Social Services team continues to provide resources to any facing the dual challenges of crisis abroad and rising antisemitism at home, fostering strength and resilience.

Spark Joy this Month with Chanukah Gift Wishes
With Chanukah just a few weeks away, The Ark is committed to spreading joy and empowering families through our Chanukah Gift Wishes program. Funded by the generosity of our community, this program provides gift cards to Ark clients for every child in their household, giving parents the dignity of choice through the opportunity to shop for presents that will light up their children’s eyes. Families also receive a festive package of Chanukah supplies that includes a menorah, candles, dreidels, and gelt.
This month, Ark Trustees Tony and Francine Brown will generously match all donations to the Chanukah Gift Wishes program dollar-for-dollar to help us reach our $40,000 goal. Help us bring this vision to life by doubling the impact of your generosity and empowering parents to give their children a special gift this Chanukah.

"Our first night of Chanukah was filled with surprises, happiness, and a lively game of dreidel, lasting until the very last flicker of candlelight. We're so grateful for the joy you brought to our family." - Ark Client, 2022

Thank you for brightening the holiday season and helping children and families in our community celebrate Chanukah free from financial worry! And be sure to spread the word in celebration of #GivingTuesday on November 28th to give back and do good as part of this global generosity movement.

Heating Homes and Warming Hands: The Ark's Winter Assistance
As winter sets in, The Ark's Winterwear Program, supported by funding from the Jewish United Fund's Chanukah Coat Club, plays a critical role in serving the Chicagoland Jewish community. Last year, The Ark provided $32,175 in essential winter clothing to nearly 150 households, equipping them with coats, boots, and mittens to brave the cold.
We also thank the many community members and groups who have donated knitted or newly purchased hats, mittens, and scarves to this program. Your heartwarming contributions have fully stocked our winterwear inventory to meet our clients' needs.

"The Ark's kind gifts of coats and boots have my family bundled in the warmth of community with a dash of seasonal style." - Ark Client

In another key initiative, The Ark's case managers are proactive in assisting clients with the application process for the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This program offers financial aid to help families manage their heating and utility expenses during the winter months. Through these services, and supplemental financial assistance from The Ark as needed, we ensure that individuals and families have the resources they need to stay warm and safe throughout the season.
