Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, has announced that the traditional Palm Sunday procession, which goes from the Mount of Olives up to Jerusalem, has been cancelled and will be replaced by a moment of prayer for the city.

In particular, he invited everyone to unite in prayer to ask for peace and serenity, especially for those suffering because of the conflict.

“We will do so with humble hearts, certain that our prayer, even while we are physically distant, is capable of drawing upon the strength of God's love, which unites us in a spirit of hope and trust,” the Cardinal wrote in his announcement.

“We desire peace, first and foremost, for our troubled hearts. Only prayer can give it,” the Cardinal wrote.

He concluded by noting that: “Easter, which we celebrate in the name of Christ's passion, death, and resurrection, reminds us that no darkness, not even that of war, can have the last word. The empty tomb is the seal of the victory of life over hatred, of mercy over sin. Let us allow this certainty to illuminate our steps and sustain our hope.”

The Church has added a special intention for Peace in the Solemn Intercessions during the Good Friday Passion Liturgy. And so, we'll join with the whole Church in praying for peace.

Peace and blessings,

Father Gil

Thank you for your generosity sustains the Paulist mission. There is still time to participate. Your participation in the appeal as a sign of unity. As we enter this holiest time of the liturgical year, please consider ways you can pick up the cross and follow Jesus into greater intimacy with God. Please pray for the continued success of the Together in Mission Annual Appeal, and please consider supporting the appeal to help lighten the crosses others are bearing. By making a gift to the Together in Mission Annual Appeal, we can make his presence known to those who need it most.
