Hey Friend,
Does time sometime feel HEAVY to you? And yet it feels like it's "Slipping, Slipping, Slipping Into The Future." Well, this week I added a few more "Time Slip" reminders for us to consider as we enter the month of March, which happens to be the last month of the 1st Quarter of 2025.
But back to Time feeling HEAVY. Yesterday I served as the funeral director in charge of a service for a 33-year-old young man. He had his whole life ahead of him, or so it seemed, but in an instant, his time on this earth was gone. And as I stood there, watching his family grieve, I couldn’t help but reflect on my own time, and how I still wanna "fly like an eagle" by sharing the gospel with many, helping the hopeless, and being a good wife and mom to the family God has entrusted to me. And yet I often question if I am using my time well?
Am I making it count? Or am I just surviving, as I try to keep all the balls in the air.
Maybe you’ve felt this way too. Maybe you’ve done ALL the right things as it relates to following God’s calling on your life, and yet you find yourself at a certain stage in life where the weight of time feels heavy. Where your body is tired, and the daily grind often seems to overshadow the bigger picture. And you ask yourself: How do I make the best of my time when I often feel like I’m just trying to make it through the day?
Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens, a time to plant and a time to harvest, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. That means there is a divine rhythm to life, and while we may not always understand why certain seasons feel longer or harder than others, God is still sovereign over time itself.
So, how do we continue to continue?
1. Recognize the Season You’re In
It may not be a season of overflow, but it doesn’t mean it’s wasted. God is still working in the midst of exhaustion, in the middle of the grind. And just like seasons change in nature, this one will shift too.
2. Be Sure to Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing
It’s easy to get consumed with survival mode, but we have to remind ourselves that God’s purpose is bigger than anything you can name. Yes, those things matter, but they aren’t the only thing that matters. We still have to carve out time for rest, for connection, for the things that make life meaningful.
3. Trust That Obedience is Never in Vain
If like me, you followed God’s calling on your life, and it led you to a hard place, that doesn’t mean you missed God. Provision, healing, blessings, etc. may not always come how we expect, but God is faithful. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33). It may not always be in abundance, butGod is always more thank enough.
4. Be Present
The young man I buried yesterday didn’t know his time was up. None of us do. And that’s a sobering reality. We can’t live in the regrets of yesterday or the worries of tomorrow. We have to be present in today, making the most of the time we do have, loving well, serving well, and trusting that God is holding the rest.
I certainly don’t have all the answers. I still wrestle with the weight of time, the feeling of exhaustion, the question of how to make it all work. But I do know this, ”my time is in God’s hands,” and as long as we’re still here, He’s not done with us yet.
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
Ecclesiastes 3:1
