Dr. Fred's granite test kit

Concerned that your granite countertops might have been "doctored" (dyed) to look like a higher quality stone? This is a common problem especially with dark granite such as black absolute. This test kit will tell you if the stone has been dyed to artificially darken it.

Dr. Fred's granite test kit is available at the links below.

Industry News

Did you know that resin enhanced slabs do not work outdoors. They tend to fade in color and the resin can peel off. You can see this when you look at the slabs and you see run marks on the sides of the slabs which run down from the tops when they coat the tops of the slabs with resin. FYI

David bought Steve’s Polishing pro systems last year and now David has a patent pending. This system can fix scratches and blemishes on Quartz counter tops.

The company is now called ESPS/Engineered Stone Polishing Systems.

This Month's Recipe

Grilled Lamb Chops with Greek Salad

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 lamb shoulder-blade chops (about 2 lb.)
  • Salt and pepper
  • 8 cups mixed salad greens
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup kalamata or other black olives, pitted and halved
  • 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3 ounces feta, crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh oregano

DIRECTIONS

Step 1

Preheat a gas grill on high, covered, for 10 minutes, then turn heat to medium. Pat lamb chops dry with paper towels and sprinkle generously with salt and pepper. Grill, turning once, until cooked to desired doneness, 8 to 10 minutes total for medium-rare. Remove chops from grill, tent with foil and let rest on a cutting board or plate for 5 minutes.

Step 2

While lamb chops are cooking, toss greens, tomatoes, cucumber, olives, onion, oil and lemon juice in a large bowl. Divide salad among 4 plates. Top each plate with a chop, sprinkle salad with cheese and oregano and serve immediately.
