March 2022 Newsletter, Issue 164
An Important Note From Our Founder
Wrapping up the figures for 2021 can be a daunting task. At the same time, it is very enlightening. The amount of growth we have seen is hard to wrap my head around.

Our stats from 2020 to 2021:
• Emergency Veterinary Care appointments up 28%
• Cost of those appointments increased 54%
• Pets needing care up 29% (88% of pets are dogs)
• Discounts from hospitals increased 19.2%
• Number of network hospitals up 81% now over 1,370
• Pet food donated and reported up 35.5%
• All five program expenses are up 52.4%
Supporters:
• Grants from Foundations up 30.5%
• Bequests up 252%
• Individual and Company support was up 138%

Calls made and taken by cases managers elevated from 8,402 to 11,659. That's an increase of 3,257 calls, equaling a 39% climb. With this increase in phone usage, we found it necessary to obtain an answering service that is available 24/7.

During January, the incoming and outgoing calls totaled more than 2,500. With this increase of callers looking for help, we hired another staff member bringing our total to eight employees.

We could not have achieved these incredible expansions and changes without you… my sincere appreciation for your support and generosity.

Coming soon - Watch for our 2021 Annual Report.

With gratitude,

Success Story: JD (Just Dog)

Success Story: Molly
A woman has been living in her RV with no hookups in San Jose, CA for the past 2 years. Currently, she has no transportation and receives food stamps.
She reached out to Feeding Pets of the Homeless because her 9-month-old female terrier, Molly, was not eating or drinking and had been vomiting for several days.

Legacy Spotlight
Teresa Lenore (Caudle) Sanders
(1954 – 2015)
Teresa Lenore (Caudle) Sanders, age 61, passed away peacefully at her home in Oneonta, NY on October 24th.
Teresa was born in Birmingham, AL to E. Leon Sanders and Bobbe Henry Sanders, who survive her. Teresa is also survived by her brother, Rance Sanders (Angie), sister, Karen Sanders, nephew, Brooks Sanders, niece, Casey Sandkuhl (Simeon) and former husband and friend, Jack Caudle. She grew up in Bluff Park and attended Bluff Park Elementary School, graduated W.A. Berry High School, and attended Jacksonville State University.
After college, Teresa served as an executive and Corporate Secretary at Jefferson Title Corporation in Birmingham for 16 years where she played an instrumental role in the growth of her family’s business.
Teresa retired from corporate life to pursue her passion for raising, training, showing, rescuing, and caring for animals of all kinds. In addition to guinea pigs, fish, ferrets, flying squirrels, snakes, mice and chinchillas, Teresa had a special affinity for dogs and miniature donkeys.
She and her father founded C & S Dream Donkeys Ranch where she bred, trained and showed from an original herd of 20 miniature donkeys and 2 wonderful mules. Teresa’s beloved creatures won countless awards in shows around the United States, including recently in Shelbyville, TN despite Teresa being in declining health. She was especially proud of her final ribbons and the hard work that was given by her trainer, Justin Butts.
Teresa also gave much of her time and energy to rescuing dogs. She would transport homeless or needy dogs to rescue centers or to new homes from Mobile to Wisconsin, where they could be loved.

Teresa wanted to leave a final message:
“Everyone can do something to help save lives. You reap a wonderful feeling in your heart that God bestows on you for doing what you can to help His creatures.”
