WILPF Solidarity with the Poor People's Campaign, June 18
Emily Keel and Rev. Rowan Fairgrove
Emily Keel (left) of Triangle WILPF NC and Rev. Rowan Fairgrove (right) of WILPF San Jose CA are WILPF US Liaisons with our partner, the Poor People’s Campaign.
Join this call to GET PREPARED for a national WILPF Solidarity Action.

On June 18th our partner, The Poor People’s Campaign, is asking our members to stand with them in large numbers to demand a more caring economy that works for everyone. We’ve been preparing for this for months. And this month we’ll hear from our two PPC/WILPF Liaisons about what different states are doing to organize for this event. Emily Keel (Triangle WILPF) and Rowan Fairgrove (San Jose CA WILPF) will have good suggestions for actions you can do, even if you can’t travel.

If you do plan to travel, they’ll have tips for how to find other WILPF members, how to be visible as WILPFers, and how to do effective interviews with local reporters.

We’ll also hear from DISARM Committee Chair Cherrill Spencer about how the Poor People’s Campaign Moral Budget intersects with WILPF’s calls for reduced military spending, even during this wild military spending surge in Ukraine. And Des Moines WILPF’s Jan Corderman will talk about the resources available for showing your WILPF identity.

Here’s some of what you can do on June 18. Tune in on the 12th to organize, mobilize and learn more to prepare fully.

1-   Travel to Washington DC, (alone, with a friend or by buses being arranged by local PPC leaders). Bring WILPF materials to wear or display that visibly identify you as WILPF. Look for other WILPF members to join you and march together.

2-   If you can’t make the trip to DC, plan to travel to your state Capital to join others from around your state to demonstrate with the Poor People’s Campaign there.

3-   If you can’t travel to your state capital, you can organize a small covid-safe viewing party at your house and use this as a moment to talk to others about the goals of the Poor People’s Campaign.

4-   If you can’t hold a house party, at least commit to watch the march in DC virtually on your computer.

5-   A few weeks before the March, start contacting your local tv news and radio stations in your state capital, to ask them to make time to cover the Poor People’s Campaign demonstration in your state.
