Let us worship God.

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Forgiving God,

We confess that we are conformed to this world.

We conform to this world’s frantic pace,

too hectic to notice all the blessings you provide.

We conform to this world’s reckless waste,

exploiting what you entrust to our care.

We conform to this world’s shallow values,

oblivious to the giftedness of people different from us.

We conform to the world’s impatient attitudes,

preferring the latest instead of the lasting.

Forgive our conformity and transform us, O God.

We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF GRACE

If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,

we would now be lost in sin.

But it is the Lord who is on our side.

And so we are forgiven.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made

heaven and earth.

Thanks be to God!

*GLORIA: GtG 582

Glory to God, Whose Goodness Shines on Me

Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,

and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,

And to the Spirit, whose love has set me free.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.

World without end, without end. Amen.

World without end, without end. Amen.

World without end, without end. Amen.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.

THE PEACE

May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you.

The people may exchange signs of God’s peace.

TIME WITH YOUNG DISCIPLES

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 138

1I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;

    before the gods I sing your praise;

2 I bow down toward your holy temple

    and give thanks to your name for your

   steadfast love and your faithfulness,

    for you have exalted your name and your word

    above everything.

3 On the day I called, you answered me;

    you increased my strength of soul.

4 All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord,

    for they have heard the words of your mouth.

5 They shall sing of the ways of the Lord,

    for great is the glory of the Lord.

6 For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly,

    but the haughty he perceives from far away.

7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,

    you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;

you stretch out your hand,

    and your right hand delivers me.

8 The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;

    your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.

    Do not forsake the work of your hands.

SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 3:14-21

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God!

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (From A Brief Statement of Faith)

We trust in God the Holy Spirit,

everywhere the giver and renewer of life.

The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith,

sets us free to accept ourselves

and to love God and neighbor,

and binds us together with all believers

in the one body of Christ, the Church.

The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles

rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture,

engages us through the Word proclaimed,

claims us in the waters of baptism,

feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation,

and calls women and men to all ministries of the Church.

SHARING JOYS AND CONCERNS

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

God of all, thank you for hearing these prayers:

For the human family with whom we share this world—

For the world we share with all creation—

For local, national, and international leaders—

For joys and concerns that occupy our thoughts today—

those we have spoken aloud and those we

ponder inwardly—

we give you thanks and ask that you be at our side,

guiding us to recognize that our help is in the

name of the Lord,

who made heaven and earth.

Hear the prayers we lift in silence. . . .

By the power of your Spirit, we make our prayer with resurrection hope, in the name of Jesus, who taught us to pray….

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
