Member Spotlight: Q&A with Chelsea McKinney, APR Candidate
April is APR month, and we're shining the spotlight on some of OCPRSA’s APR candidates in the next few weeks. Please say hello to Chelsea McKinney, an absolutely dynamic PR professional whose amazing can-do attitude and warm, welcoming nature make her a favorite with colleagues and clients alike. Meet Chelsea!
Q: Chelsea, please tell us about you! Your job, etc.
A: I have nearly a decade of PR agency experience under my belt, with a history of serving clients in a variety of industries. It’s been my pleasure to represent some of your favorite fast-food franchises, Huntington Beach’s beachside concessions, nonprofits helping folks (re)enter the workforce, families in poverty who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness and even your favorite shopping centers! I’m blessed to lead an incredible team of bright and creative professionals, working in lockstep to tell our clients’ stories and help revitalize brands. On a personal level, I’ve been with my husband for almost 18 years, and I have two of the kindest, smartest and most beautiful daughters I could have ever asked for. I love trashy reailty television (and Ted Lasso) and you can usually find me with my family exploring and enjoying Southern California’s best family-friendly spots.
Q: What motivated you to pursue your APR?
A: Throughout my career, I’ve worked alongside powerful, ethical and strategic women leaders. Many of my mentors have their APR and I know that although it is a busy season in my life with two small children, I had to take the leap. In order to be the best professional I can possibly be, I need to have that leg up within our field and having my APR will do that for me. I am excited to attempt to join a prestigious group of professionals who proudly hold this accreditation!
Q: What’s your favorite piece of advice for PR professionals?
A: Network, work hard and be kind. Aspire to be a valuable resource for your peers – it can open many doors in this industry – and don’t forget to be humble, grateful and friendly. Kindness can make a huge impact.
