Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.
-
The United States Supreme Court decided that it was illegal for government to pay off people’s student loans with taxpayer’s money. This was a blatant vote-buying scheme on the part of the Biden administration. Where have we seen this before?
-
Mountain Metro Transit is proposing changes and additions to some bus routes around town. MMT has also received $3.2 million in taxpayer funds to add electric buses to their fleet.
-
The City of Colorado Springs is further restricting the amount of turf grass that can be installed with new construction.
-
Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade has created a new office: The Office of Community Affairs. This office is designed to “…create connections with community stakeholders….” We wonder if taxpayers are considered stakeholders, and if this will lead to less potholes.
-
So far, 49% of property valuation protests were approved in El Paso County. The county was inundated with over 33,000 property tax valuation protests. Did you protest your tax assessment, and what was the result?
-
Overall, in Colorado, tens-of-thousands of residents have protested their property tax valuations. The legislature could have addressed this issue, but instead they decided, along with Governor Polis, to use this as an opportunity to defeat TABOR once and for all.
-
Colorado will receive $826.5 million in federal taxpayer money to expand broadband services. Also, the United States national debt stands at $32 trillion and counting. Is this the proper role of government, or should private companies who can’t tax people into ruin be doing this?
-
In other “Taxpayers are a Slush Fund” news this week, the State of Colorado has awarded a total of $18 million to various “Affordable Housing” developments in the state. One local development, The Launchpad, which is designed for homeless youth on the westside of Colorado Springs, will receive $4.75 million.
-
Residents of one Briargate neighborhood are pushing back against the city. Some residents claim they were not appropriately informed, or were even mislead, about an “affordable housing” apartment development in their neighborhood.
