Week of November 22 /1 Jumada at-Thani

As we enter Jumada al-Thani, the month in which Mawlana Shaykh Hisham’s ق soul was lifted into Divine Presence last year, many of us are feeling this new moon with unusual weight. It’s a strange spiritual gravity — like a quiet vacuum that pulls on the heart, asking us to let go of what we were holding too tightly.

For everyone whose life was shaped by Mawlana’s compassion and clarity, this past year has been a test of walking without the physical presence that once carried us. And yet, Alhamdulillah — you showed up. You shared your faith, your families, your energy, and your hopes with this community. That trust is priceless.

We also ask forgiveness for where we’ve fallen short or failed to understand your needs. We’re learning. We’re listening. We’re still trying to figure out how to serve in the absence of the one who taught us service.

No one can claim to grasp the wisdom behind Allah’s decree — but we can say this: we’re in it together, and that has always been our protection.

As we prepare for Mawlana’s Urs, these newsletters will take a quieter tone. Less noise, more reflection. Over the next few weeks, we’re listening — to Allah, to the hearts of the mureeds, and to the real needs of our local centers.

At the same time, we’ll continue to share what’s happening across our community — the efforts, initiatives, weekly programs, and small acts of service that keep this path alive.

May this month bring clarity, healing, and a return to the simplicity of the Naqshbandi way: presence, sincerity, humility, love.

"InshaAllah, we can continue to do what Mawlana Shaykh Hisham has done. That is my goal. My goal is not to be Mawlana Shaykh Hisham — astaghfirullah. He is in a station that we don’t even know. But we know that he is our teacher. We know that he is our guide. So we are trying to continue what he has left behind.

He has left behind good hearts. He has left behind merciful hearts, right? He made your heart more lenient, more accepting, more tolerant, more loving. That’s what we have to continue doing — to ourselves and to the rest of our community.

We are not trying to be them. That is not good adab, to say, ‘I am instead of him.’ That means you never considered him to be a Shaykh — that’s how I see it.

If you knew that he was your teacher, if you knew that he was your guide, you can never ever go above your teacher, never go above your guide. You are always a student to that teacher. You are always a disciple of that teacher. And that’s the proper adab of following Waliullah.

And may Allah ﷻ allow us to keep adab with the rest — with our families, with our friends. May Allah ﷻ always keep us in Hilaq al-Dhikr."
