President's Message

Welcome Back, FAEA Family!

Happy New Year! As we dive into 2025, I hope you’re feeling refreshed and ready to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. January is a time for fresh starts, renewed energy, and laying the groundwork for a successful second half of the school year. Together, we have the chance to continue building on the incredible momentum of our community and make this year truly remarkable.

One exciting opportunity to kick off the year is the FAEA Florida Student Art Assessment, formerly known as the K-12 Student Art Assessment & Virtual Exhibition. This program is an invaluable chance for your students to showcase their creativity and for us, as educators, to advocate for the incredible work happening in our art classrooms. By participating in the Florida Student Art Assessment, we highlight the exceptional talent of our students while demonstrating the critical role art education plays in their development. Let’s make sure this year’s submissions shine just as brightly as the artists behind them!

January is also a great time to reflect on the goals you set at the beginning of the school year. What’s working well? Where could you use more support? Whether it’s classroom strategies, professional development, or connecting with fellow members, remember that FAEA is here to support you every step of the way. Together, we can continue to inspire and uplift one another.

As you ease back into your routine, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Whether it’s taking a moment to sketch, stepping outside for fresh air, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of coffee, those small moments of self-care can make all the difference. Let’s lead by example and show our students that creativity thrives when we nurture ourselves.

I’m looking forward to all the incredible things we’ll accomplish together in 2025. Let’s start this new chapter with enthusiasm, collaboration, and a commitment to making this year our best yet.

Here’s to a fresh start and a creative journey ahead. Together, we are stronger!

Warm regards,

Latonya Hicks

FAEA President

Youth Art Month

2025 Youth Art Month Flag

FAEA is proud to unveil the 2025 Youth Art Month (YAM) Flag! The flag features the artwork I've Got Your Back created by student Raine Ago from Orange County. Representing the state of Florida, FAEA's YAM Flag will be displayed in the Youth Art Month Museum at the National Art Education Association (NAEA) Convention in March.

What is Youth Art Month?

Youth Art Month (YAM) is celebrated nation-wide during the month of March. FAEA invites all art educators to participate in YAM activities this year. The purpose of YAM is to advocate the importance of visual arts education in all schools. We celebrate by highlighting classroom success stories, recognizing outstanding art teachers, and encouraging teachers to promote their art programs in their community.

How to Participate in YAM

YAM celebrations can be as simple as a single-class learning activity that focuses on the value of the arts. Celebrations can also involve school-wide or community art exhibitions, fundraisers for school art programs, or other community art outreach programs. Share your art program success stories on social media and tag @FloridaArtEd in your post and include the following hashtags: #YouthArtMonth #YAM

Together, we can raise awareness of the value of visual arts education in our schools and the positive impact art educators provide to their students and community.
