Dear Gordon JCC Members,
As we all learned Friday morning, the Metro Department of Health lifted the indoor mask mandate and eased gathering and capacity restrictions for the Nashville area, while stating that businesses should determine what is best for the populations they serve. They also strongly recommended wearing masks for those who are unvaccinated when in crowds, indoors and unable to socially distance. While we are encouraged by these changes, we are asking for your patience as we determine the best course of action for the Gordon JCC. We will continue to require masks in the public areas of the JCC and reservations to use our facilities as we take the time to evaluate our options and determine the best plan going forward. Masks are not required in the fitness center, except in the sessions below, or in the pool.
We are a community center that serves a wide age range of people, from newborns to centenarians. While 37% of Nashvillians have received two doses of a COVID vaccine, many teens are not fully vaccinated and children under 12 years of old are not yet eligible. We also know that no vaccine is 100% effective and that the circulating British variant is more contagious and has infected many children, who are excellent carriers of the virus, even if they don’t get very ill. In addition, many vaccinated members have told us that they are not quite ready to take off their masks completely. These are a few of the factors we will consider next week as we review and revise our policies.
For now, we will continue our mid-day cleaning with the electrostatic sprayer and the times immediately after the spraying will continue to be mask required.
· 1 – 2:30 PM on weekdays
· 12:40 – 2:00 PM on Saturday and Sundays
We remain committed to our mitigation efforts and keeping our members, guest, and staff as safe as possible. We ask you to help us by
· Wearing a mask, over the nose and mouth, while in common areas of our building, even if fully vaccinated
· Social distancing
· Monitoring yourself for COVID symptoms and staying home if you feel unwell
Thank you for your continued support and your patience and cooperation as we navigate this pandemic.
