State of the County Address

Fairfield County leaders came together for the 2026 State of the County Address to highlight the past year's accomplishments, share updates on ongoing projects and outline their vision for the year ahead. Watch the full address to hear from the Fairfield County Commissioners about the progress we're making, the priorities shaping our community and the work underway to keep our county moving forward.

What Happens at a County Commissioners' Meeting

The Fairfield County Board of Commissioners gather weekly to take care of the county’s business, and residents are invited to watch it happen.

The Commissioners meet at 9 a.m. each Tuesday, in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room at 210 E. Main St. in Lancaster, unless otherwise noted. During these meetings, they discuss the county’s financial, administrative and operational business and hear updates from elected officials and department heads. Those updates give the board the information it needs to make well-informed decisions on behalf of residents.

Most of the decisions made at these meetings involve budgets and finances, contracts and purchasing, and administrative matters and appointments. Importantly, no single commissioner can act alone. Individual Commissioners have no independent decision-making power, so every action requires a majority vote of the board.

Because these are open meetings, residents can attend in person or join online. Anyone who wants to prepare ahead of time or catch up afterward can find agendas, minutes from past meetings and the online meeting link on the commissioners’ website at www.co.fairfield.oh.us/commish.

Attending a meeting is one of the simplest ways to see how decisions about your community are made, and we hope to see you there.

Fairfield County Fair

The 2026 Fairfield County Fair was another memorable celebration of community, tradition and local pride! Many county departments hosted booths throughout the week to share resources, information and services with residents. We’re grateful to everyone who stopped by to learn more about local programs and initiatives.

A special highlight of the week was the Commissioners’ purchase of the grand champion steer. Each year, the Commissioners use their personal funds to buy livestock at the fair in support of the young people, families and programs that make it such an important part of our community. This year, they donated the meat from the grand champion steer to The Foundation Dinners. Their support reflects a belief in the value of 4-H and FFA and the lessons young people gain through agriculture, responsibility and hands-on experience.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s fair such a success. We can’t wait to see you at the 2027 Fairfield County Fair!
