Set Aside Pre-Tax Dollars Towards Commuter Expenses
Does your employer allow you to use pre-tax dollars towards commuter benefits such as transit passes or vanpool fares? If so, you can save money on your commuting cost just by setting aside some of your income before it is taxed.
To get started, reach out to Human Resources or your Employee Transportation Coordinator to see if your employer offers pre-tax commuter benefits and enroll in the program. Then, determine how much you want to set aside from your paycheck towards commuting costs; the limit is $340 per month.

"Tap to Pay" Feature on Transit
You can now pay for transit using a debit or credit card! Just tap your physical or virtual card on the yellow card reader like an ORCA card. "Tap to Pay' is now accepted across the ORCA system including Pierce Transit and Sound Transit services but is not yet available on Pierce Transit Runner and SHUTTLE services.
If you use a reduced fare card or employer-provided ORCA card, please continue to use those to receive the best fare.

A couple days a week, David bikes around Tacoma to multiple worksites and has plenty of perks and pleasant moments to brag about. See why he has stuck to riding his bike for 40 years!
"More than once, I've stopped to pick up keys or a child's toy next to a parked car. I really enjoy seeing the relief on the adult's face when I knock on the door to give them their keys or the toy. I enjoy smiling at drivers and having them smile back because it confirms that they see me." - David C.
