Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! Students are still reacclimating to a regular-school environment; parents/guardians, we need your help! Last week your student sat through a review of the major rules and procedures at Hinsdale South. Our focus is preparing students for life after school. We told students that when they have a job they must: 1) go to work, 2) be on time for work, 3) wear identification, and 4) dress appropriately for the work environment. School is no different, and students need to attend, be on time, wear their school issued lanyards and IDs, and dress appropriately for the school environment. Below are some of the reminders that we need you to reinforce at home.
Attendance
According to attendancworks.org, students should miss no more than 9 days of school each year to remain on track to graduation. Missing 10%, or 2 days a month, over the course of the school year, can negatively affect a student’s academic success. Please send your students to school, even when they are asking to stay home.
Student drop off - Classes begin at 8:00. Please ensure you drop off your student no later than 7:55. You may drop off your student at the gym doors or main entrance (circle drive).
Late Students - Students must be in class when the bell rings. This year we are implementing “hallway sweeps.” Students who are tardy to class will meet with their dean immediately, guardians will be called, and students will be assigned a consequence.
Student pick up - After school pick up is on the North side (gym doors) of the school building. Please follow all instructional signage. Students may only stay after school if they are participating in a school-sponsored activity or receiving academic assistance.
IDs and Lanyards - Similar to last year, students are required to wear their school-issued identification and lanyard around their neck. It is imperative that we know that only Hinsdale South students are in our building. Please help your student remember their ID and lanyard. Temporary IDs are $1 and replacement IDs are $5.
Lunch - Encourage your students to prepare for their lunch. Food deliveries are prohibited and we do not accept daily lunch drop offs.
Dress for Success - We understand that clothing trends continue to evolve, but we want our students to dress appropriately for the school environment. Students who do not will be required to change.
Appropriately means:
Students are required to be clothed with a non-transparent material from shoulder to mid-thigh. No midriff showing. Yes, tank tops are allowed, however tube tops are not.
All undergarments must be covered when seated, standing, or participating in school activities.
Students may not wear garments or jewelry depicting any alcohol or tobacco brands/products or other drugs.
Students may not wear garments or jewelry with messages, graphics, or symbols depicting weapons or which are derogatory, inflammatory, sexual, or discriminatory.
Footwear must be appropriate to learning activities and may not present safety hazards for participation (e.g., Physical Education, Lab Classes, Career and Technical Education Courses).
