May 2025 Connections
Information for caregivers to help children thrive!
| | Deepening Expertise to Support Mental Health Needs | | |
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, an opportunity to recognize the role mental health plays in our lives, to promote mental well-being, and to continue to destigmatize mental health needs in our communities.
For the past two years, Developmental FX has had the opportunity to deepen our capacity to address mental health needs thanks to generous funding from Caring for Denver. Caring for Denver has a mission “to address Denver’s mental health and substance misuse needs by growing community-informed solutions, dismantling stigma, and turning the community’s desire to help into action.” With their support, we have been able to add to our existing mental health services by creating an externship program and have upskilled our entire therapy team in the delivery of mental health support.

Expanding Mental Health Services
Our mental health externship program facilitates in-depth learning for graduate students in mental health programs in the Denver area. They are supervised by DFX’s Psychology Team Lead, Dr. Meade McCue, and have the opportunity to learn best practices for working with our diverse client group. The addition of these externs to the DFX team has increased our capacity to conduct evaluations and treat clients with mental health-related needs. We are thrilled about the learning that was possible for our past externs and are looking forward to two new externs joining our team this Fall.

Deepening Expertise Related to Mental Health Needs
With this grant support, we have also been able to invest in advanced training for our team related to mental health treatment approaches. Some of the approaches and content we have focused on include DIRFloortime®, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, and polyvagal theory. We have been integrating this learning into our practice to support our staff with tools that enable them to deliver ongoing high-quality empathetic, informed, and effective support to our clients and their families.
| | | |
With these two arms of our Expand grant we have been advancing our Therapy that Fits® approach to working with clients according to each individual’s unique profile. This work includes contributing to a more understanding and aware environment in our communities related to mental health needs. We recognize that mental health is fundamental to overall health, and we are dedicated to taking meaningful steps to support our community. By working together, we can promote a culture of understanding, acceptance, and support for everyone's mental well-being.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Caring for Denver for their partnership and their ongoing commitment to advancing mental health services in our community!
