Rev. Perez Fobes
Perez Fobes was born in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, on September 21, 1742. He was one of twelve children and showed an early disposition to piety and study, but suffered from poor health.
He taught school and graduated from Harvard in 1762. He was considered well-read and a successful orator. He was licensed to preach, and on November 19, 1766, was ordained as pastor of the Congregational Church in Raynham. Rev. Fobes was the second minister of Raynham and its most famous. Soon after he became minister, he started a school at home. It is said that the schools in Raynham during Fobes' ministry were of a higher order than in adjacent towns. He served in Raynham for the rest of his life.
Fobes was vice-president of Brown University in 1786 and was appointed president from June 1 to September 1, 1786, when President Manning was elected representative to Congress. Later in the year he was named professor of natural philosophy, replacing Joseph Brown, who had died in 1785. On August 1, 1791, four days after the death of Manning, Fobes was requested by the Corporation to "attend the College from this time 'till Commencement to supervise the instruction of the Students & perform prayers &c." In 1792, he received his LL.D (honorary law doctorate) from Brown University. Fobes allowed the College the use of his personal scientific equipment, and when he resigned in 1798, he left behind the instruments, of which the College paid him fifty dollars a year for the use.
In addition to publishing sermons, Fobes also wrote a history of Raynham in 1793. In 1796, he was placed in charge of Bristol Academy in Massachusetts, where he encouraged students to come to Brown University. Dr. Perez Fobes died on February 23, 1812, in Raynham, Massachusetts.

Climate Can-Do: Start Your Own Garden
With summer and the warmer weather approaching, gardening is a fun project for your family and yourself to work on together. Whether you have a green thumb or not, gardening is a great and simple hobby to take up. It also has many benefits for yourself and the Earth.
All plants go through the process of photosynthesis, which is when plants intake water and the atmosphere's carbon dioxide. In return, the plant releases fresh oxygen for us to breath and enjoy. Therefore, more plants result in more oxygen, a crucial element our bodies need!
In addition to improving our environment, gardening is proven to improve your mental health as well. Gardening has been found to lower stress and anxiety levels, as well as increase mindfulness and gratification. The Mayo Clinic Health System Website states that "It's very gratifying to plant, tend, harvest and share your own food. Routines provide structure to our day and are linked to improved mental health. Gardening routines, like watering and weeding, can create a soothing rhythm to ease stress."
The National Agricultural Library Website has numerous resources from gardening tips to factsheets about every vegetable or flower you may be interested in planting. The website highlights that, "A well-kept vegetable garden is a source not only of profit to the gardener but of pleasure to the entire family."

A Beautiful Raynham Memorial Day Parade!
As mini American flags dotted the path of the Raynham Memorial Day Parade on May 27th, many people were in attendance with cheers and applause in support of the annual tribute to the many U.S. soldiers who had fought and died bravely during their service. Members of all parts of the community, such as the BRRHS Marching Band, Raynham Girl Scouts, and local first responders marched together in a long procession. Throughout it all, the American flag flew high from one of the Raynham Fire Department’s own firetrucks in salute to all fallen military and their sacrifice.

I always loved summer school with my boys ... the geography of rocks and biology of trees; glacial formations and mountains; the energy of a warm fire and the transformation of matter when cooked on.
Marine biology and earth sciences in watching the tides and digging sand; the physics of wind in the sails and the pedal turns of our bicycles. Painting & craft projects while sitting in the shade of a tree. Yup, summer is a real STEAM education! Enjoy! ~ Jacquie
