Beautiful whimsy is one for the (young) ages

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City opened the 81st Street Studio children’s play and education space last fall. Mark Richey Woodworking had the amazing pleasure of carrying out KOKO Architecture and Design’s swirling, tactile and whimsical vision for the space, located in The Met’s Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education.

According to KOKO, “ … the 81st Street Studio conjures a magical space where new worlds, filled with culture and art, come to life.”

The Mark Richey team, working in collaboration with general contractor Roundsquare, created ceiling fins and "clouds"; reading areas with storage and seating and even places to crawl and slide; tables with integrated video projection and touch screens; musical instruments; and more, all meant to move mind and body.
