Darrell Waltrip Subaru, in Franklin, TN, has created a beautiful butterfly and honey bee pollinator garden to welcome customers as they approach the service drive.
Pollinator gardens are designed to attract bees, butterflies, and other important insects that play a crucial role in our ecosystem. Planting native flowers and plants can provide a habitat and food source for these pollinators. These gardens also help to increase biodiversity and promote a healthier ecosystem, thereby making a positive impact on the environment.

Darrell Waltrip Automotive Group has been a long-standing supporter of the Harpeth Conservancy. The Harpeth River, which is one of very few free-flowing (no dams restricting the flow of water) rivers in the state of Tennessee, flows through Franklin, TN, where Darrell Waltrip Subaru is located. According to the Harpeth Conservancy web site, "The Harpeth River meanders through agricultural, forested, and suburban areas of six counties in the greater Nashville region until it joins the Cumberland River. The Harpeth River watershed refers to the total area of land — 870 square miles — which drains into the Harpeth River. The Harpeth is one of a system of unique freshwater rivers in the Southeastern United States, which contains a greater variety of aquatic life than anywhere else in the world."
A piece of trash, carelessly tossed into the Harpeth River, can make its way to the Cumberland River to the Ohio River to the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico! Our waterways have such a widespread reach that anything that flows in a stream or river can end up virtually anywhere -- hence the need to be vigilant on a consistent basis about the health of waterways and the environment.

Darrell Waltrip Subaru recognizes the importance of maintaining the health and cleanliness of these waters, with over 1000 tributaries branching out from the river's length of 125 miles. Keeping the river pollution-free is a top priority.

Covanta Recognizes Subaru as a Pioneer
|
|
Covanta, the company partnered with Subaru at the zero waste-to-landfill assembly plant in Indiana, has selected Subaru as one of six manufacturers to highlight in its recent blog. The Lafayette, IN, assembly plant, a part of Subaru of Indiana Automotive, produces the Subaru Ascent, Crosstrek, Legacy and Outback models.
"Reducing, reusing, recycling and recovering resources from waste—the four “Rs” of sustainability—have long been key to reducing manufacturing’s environmental impact. Today, however, forward-thinking companies are striving to do even more by avoiding landfill disposal all together, achieving a status known as zero waste-to-landfill.
But zero waste-to-landfill isn’t just about keeping waste out of landfills—it’s about optimizing resource efficiency so that business benefits as much as the environment does. Here’s how raising the bar for their sustainability programs helped six manufacturers fast-track progress toward greener, more prosperous operations."
Subaru of America
A pioneer in applying the four Rs to business, Subaru of America (SoA) is also the first auto assembly plant in the U.S. to achieve zero waste-to-landfill status -- a goal it met two years ahead of schedule. SoA recycles approximately 185 pounds of the 215 pounds of waste each vehicle’s manufacture generates, but some non-hazardous waste that can’t be reused or recycled must still be disposed of. To increase what could be salvaged and keep what couldn’t be out of landfills, SoA’s worked with Covanta to identify more sustainable, greener materials management opportunities, ultimately shipping their last 3,000 tons of unrecyclable waste to Covanta every year, where it’s used to generate steam power for the local community.

Earth Day 2024 is already in progress! "Planet vs. Plastics" has been announced as the theme for 2024.
According to Kathleen Rogers, Earth Day President, "The health of humanity and all other living creatures hangs in the balance. Like climate change, plastics affect every living creature on the planet as it enters our land, air, and water. We are ingesting and breathing plastic throughout our bodies -- we are plastic, from the womb to the grave. That’s why EARTHDAY.ORG has chosen Planet vs. Plastics as the global theme for Earth Day 2024. We feel the theme represents the battle we are facing for human and planetary health. Planet vs. Plastics unites students, parents, businesses, governments, churches, unions, individuals, and NGOs (non-governmental organizations) in an unwavering commitment to the call for the end of plastics, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of plastics by 2040."
