Torah Fund

Torah Fund’s 2025-26 campaign, “Oseh Shalom” campaign is off to a great start! We are well on our way to our goal, and ahead of the last few years at this point.

There are many ways to donate – through your affiliate, sending checks directly to the Torah Fund office, using the on-line option and by sending e-cards. If you are donating directly on-line, it is very important to list your Sisterhood’s name. That way your Sisterhood will receive credit toward its’ goal for the year. Below we

have included the flyers for the campaign (where you will find a direct link for on-

line donations in both the U.S. and Canada), and for ordering e-cards.

As always, feel free to contact me with questions,

L’Shalom,

Programs

The History of Candy

We had an outstanding, collaborative program - The History of CANDY with a Chocolate Coated Jewish Twist, recently with Tifereth Israel Women's League along with our IntraContinental Region (ICR) presented by WLCJ own member, Helene Herman. She is also going to be the incoming WLCJ Florida Region President. There was a fantastic turnout with approximately 65 people registering and about 50 watching either in person or on Zoom. Tifereth alone had around 15 attending in person watching the Zoom presentation together. I was informed that a group of around 6 watched in Dallas, TX along with many other possible pockets around the US and Canada. We learned so much in regard to candy from Jewish inventors, owners, and Kosher products themselves. It was a lot of fun and very informative. Tifereth provided a "Candy" reception followed by many sweet treats. It was mentioned by an attendee to check out the book On a Chocolate Trail by Rabbi Debbi Prinz "Onthechocolatetrail.org".  Helene provided the following delicious recipe to create at home, Julia Adelson’s Nu’ent recipe.

We hope that everyone will plan on future ICR programming coming in the later part of January throughout February and an additional program in March. We also look forward to seeing you in person at the ICR Conference in OKC, OK then at the Convention in July!

Pictures and recipe below

Julia Adelson’s Nu’ent recipe.

  •  24 oz honey
  •  4 c Matzo Farfel (or 3 ½ old fashioned Yahrzeit
  • glasses)- about 10 oz
  •  1 lb chopped walnuts
  •  Optional-ground ginger to taste- about ¼ oz

Bring honey to a boil in a very large pot, adding matzo farfel gradually, stirring with a wet wooden spoon, then add nuts and ginger. Try not to taste as you will burn your tongue.

Continue stirring so this does not burn and cook until golden brown- it is hard to give this a time… if it’s soft, it is easier on the teeth but difficult to handle… it will

harden as it cools).

Wet a wooden board with water or Manischewitz. Make sure it is really wet.

Spread with a spatula… careful, it will be hot. When somewhat cooler, cut into rectangles. I use a wet pizza cutter. Put on a plate covered with wax paper.
