This weekend we hear the story of Lazarus. His sisters' broken-hearted lament - “why weren't you here? He would be alive now!” We see Jesus weep and in deep grief at the loss of his very dear friend - a very human moment. Jesus shows us the extent to which the power of God’s grace can redeem and resurrect us to life.
For several weeks now, our community has suffered losses. We've wept and grieved - but we were reminded at each funeral of what lies beyond death and in our readings this weekend we are comforted to remember that, with the Lord, there is mercy and fullness of redemption.
We're reassured by Jesus’ words, I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will never die. We find confidence and joy in the miracle of Lazarus, confident that we can, as did many of the Jews who had come to Mary and seen what he had done, begin to believe in Him.
