Essential Home Repair Helps People Live Better for Longer in Their Own Homes

In 2023, we served 215 people through our Essential Home Repair (EHR) program, and have already served over 88 people so far in 2024. However, the need remains high, with more than 50 local households currently on our waiting list for essential repairs. Recently, we received a note of thanks from a home repair client:

I am sending my heartfelt thanks for the hot water heater that was installed this past month in my home. After living without hot water for over a year, I am so much less stressed to now be able to take a shower whenever I need one, without planning a trip to the YMCA or - as was often the case - braving the cold shower. I am so grateful that throughout the process I was treated with dignity and respect. It’s hard to ask for help, but I am glad I finally did. Bless you all for the work you do in our community.

With gratitude,

Barbara*

Wyatt Stevens awarded The Excellence in Public Service Award

Presented by the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Mission Health, The Excellence in Public Service Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the community through involvement, service or motivation to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Buncombe County. This year’s award honors the late Wyatt S. Stevens. Wyatt's family accepted the award at the Chamber's Annual Meeting in June.

Wyatt was a champion for this region, its people, and its bountiful natural resources. We are honored to have known and worked with Wyatt. We continue to celebrate his life, impact, and legacy of “doing the right thing” in service to justice, kindness, and love.
