Today, the unexpected happened. I ended up going out into the world of church without a key element of myself. I was running out of time and could not find my eyeglasses on the floor. In a way a mishap but also in a way illustrative of the changes God can use in our lives.
In one of the parables, Jesus explains in Mark 8:22-26 that the blind man sees men as trees. I felt a little awkward not being able to see clearly the physical attributes of my friends at a distance. It would have been nice to see a missionary friend with his father across from the table but my focus was on helping our men see how we sometimes are going to fail and not live up to our expectations. This happened to Peter where Jesus foretold of Peter denying Jesus three times and hearing the symphony of the crow.
I have found that this can happen often but I now realize that I cannot be so cautious in life that I may not succeed but need to take bigger and bolder steps of faith.
I am glad that my awkwardness lasted only 2 hours. Next time I feel slightly awkward, I am going to reflect back on what happened this morning.
My friend George commented that he did not realize I wore glasses and made the comment that I may not need them. Yet I don't want to become a pancake when crossing the street without them!
When I was fully restored with my glasses on my head, I chatted with Dusty my concierge in my building. I commented how I brought down a stray cart in our building. During our peak times, we can have an abundance of carts at 6. Yet, Dusty said that our carts must have unionized. The one cart against the 107 residents in our high rise building in the city! This unionization seems to have worked with two carts in our building lobby. I appointed Dusty as the Union Chair for the Carts.
Now I will go back to the mundane. Remember to never forget to find humor in the unexpected. And live that way in our tumultuous times.
And to hire me if you find my humor rye enough for you!
