Gearbox Conversion to Manual Video by Jeremiah Blakley
Figaro owner Jeremiah Blakley decided to tackle the job of converting his Figaro from Auto to Manual. We already have some information on this type of conversion published on our website, but Jeremiah has taken it to another level by explaining in a step-by-step manner how to install the manual gearbox.

Cup Holder Product Review Video
As many of you know, one of the standout features of the Nissan Figaro is its customisation potential, with 55 unique accessories available at launch back in 1991.
| | |
The cup holder is not just a practical addition; it enhances the overall ownership experience, making every drive more enjoyable.
In this engaging video, I compare the original Nissan cup holder, (which is no longer available), to two fantastic third-party options. The first contender is a stylish fiberglass cupholder by Nic Caraccio, while the second is a classic reproduction made from rubber by Mandy Townsend,
| | | |
just like the original! In the video, I evaluate the look, feel, and costs of both products, providing you with all the insights you need to make an informed decision.
We invite you to watch the video. Share your experiences and preferences with us as we continue to celebrate the charm of the Nissan Figaro together! Happy driving and accessorising! Read more

Door Chrome Window Rubber Edging Replacement Video
As our Figaros gracefully age into their mid-30s, certain areas, particularly the rubber edging, can show signs of wear. The degradation of rubber and the drying out of the original glue can lead to unsightly detachment, often resulting in repairs that don’t always look great. For those of us striving for perfection, the best solution is to remove the old edging entirely and replace it with new material.
Join me as I work on our Figaro, affectionately named Belle, guiding you through each step of the process.
The video begins with me pulling away the window seal, granting access to the stainless-steel trim securing screws. Once these screws are removed, I take the trim into my workshop to remove any scratches with a metal polishing kit, ensuring that every detail is attended to.
| | |
After polishing, I reattach the trim to the car, insert the new rubber edging, and secure everything back in place, resulting in a flawless finish.
If your Figaro needs this upgrade, we encourage you to watch the video and follow along with our clear and detailed instructions. This is an excellent opportunity to not only learn how to tackle this task yourself but also achieve professional results that enhance the beauty of your Figaro.
Thanks to Maz Christofi from The Figaro Shop

J’Adore Figaro
Two years ago, it was revealed that Nissan had been seeking a partnership with Her Majesty the Queen, but it wasn’t the only partnership that Nissan was considering.
Court papers relating to a dispute between Dior and another perfumer, have revealed that fragrance “Dior Figaro” was due to be launched in partnership with Nissan 36 years ago in April 1991.
Created by famous perfumers Jean-Louis Sieuzac and Maurice Roger, the French fragrance was to have a specially evocative fishy element in keeping with French tradition for that time of year. The scent was to evoke “a feeling of serenity” to aid wearers in escaping “from the complexities of today’s competitive society”. Read the full story

Take a minute and check out your toolkit, and whilst your at it the pressure of your spare tyre!
We understand the common challenges Figaro owners face, particularly when it comes to missing tools and equipment. Imagine the frustration of breaking down and not being able to change your tyre simply because you lack a jack handle. Given that many Figaros have had several owners over the years, it's not unusual for essential tools to go missing, and we've heard from numerous owners who have never even received their toolkits.
We encourage you to take a moment to verify that your toolkit is complete, as being prepared can make all the difference in a roadside emergency. While you're at it, checking your tyre pressures can also help ensure your Figaro is in optimal condition! Thanks to the Figaro Club Thailand for the picture

Now this would have been fun when I was a kid
I was just 10 years of age when Hot Wheels came out back in 1968!
Who remembers setting up the track in their lounge and trying to get the cars to do the loop!!
Don't be fooled, the car is unavailable but like hundreds of others, the Figaro has enjoyed what is a growing AI phenomenon of cars being shown within the original Hot Wheels packaging.

Classic Cars At Compton Airfield - Sunday 6th April 2025
After Cassandra posted this regular Sunday meet on our club's South West Facebook Chapter, members expressed a keen interest in meeting up. And five cars did!
| | |
Organised and Pictures by Cassandra Thompson - Jones
Members enjoyed a get-together at Compton Airfield on Sunday, April 6th, 2025. The airfield hosts a fun and informal car meet for local and like-minded classic car owners. They welcome classic cars on the following allotted Sundays. Please note that this is not a formal display or group meet – just a relaxed opportunity for fellow enthusiasts to grab a coffee and enjoy a morning together! 4th May, 1st June, 29th June, 17th August and 7th September.
The weather was perfect for a figgy roof-down display. Five cars attended on the day. If you are interested in attending with your Figaro, then post a message on the groups page. Click here

North West Chapter Coffee and Cake Meet Up - Sunday 13th April 2025
Proof if ever you needed it that you can have a whole heap of fun with only a few cars, some great company, open roads and good food!

UK North West Chapter Coordinator Jane Harrop
Wow, what a fantastic Figgy meet-up we had on Sunday, April 13th, 2025, at the charming model village of Port Sunlight! It was such a delight to kick things off with a coffee and some great chit-chat, setting the perfect tone for the day.
Following Karen & David, we cruised through the picturesque, leafy lanes of the Wirral along with Ange & Dan, soaking in all that beautiful scenery, before arriving at the Boat House Pub in Parkgate for lunch.
As we gear up for our next exciting meet-up on Sunday, 18th May, we’d love to hear your ideas for starting venues within our North West region— think of something similar with a fun run and a hearty lunch! Let’s keep the camaraderie going and make our next gathering even more epic! Can't wait to see you all there! Check out the club's events. Click here

After 14 years of ownership, Fergus was on the critical list!
Scottish-based Ken Graham explains what happened after his Figaro went into the garage for a brake service
| | |
Words and Pictures by:
Ken Graham (and Fergus), Scotland Chapter Coordinator
My intention was to title this article ‘What lies beneath?’ Until our friends at The Figaro Shop published their own ‘Rust Focussed’ online blog (definitely worth checking out) using the same title!! (Cheers, Toby!!)
Read now
Staying with my intended title for the moment. Whilst you may be aware of the film of the same name from the year 2000, directed by Robert Zemeckis, and starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer, my story is purely focused on ‘Fergus’, my Emerald Green Figaro, and is written very much from an owner’s perspective.
| "However, my story echoes many reviews of the film, such as ‘Thrilling’, ‘Sinister’ and ‘Haunting’!!!" | | |
As some of you may know, I imported ‘Fergus’ in 2010/2011 from Japan, so I have been his proud custodian for over 14 years. Over this time, I have experienced many of the ‘Thrilling’ aspects of Figaro ownership, Car Shows, Club Rallies, and not least, wonderful, enduring friendships. Some of my ‘thrills’ have been the (at least) 9 or 10 MOTS showing NO advisories and, possibly, these lulled me into something of a false sense of security. I have attached to the article several ‘before’, ‘during’ and (hopefully) ‘after’ photos. I say ‘hopefully’ as at the time of writing, with the newsletter deadline approaching, ‘Fergus’ is still receiving ‘treatment’!
My reality hit (and the ‘Sinister’ aspect mentioned above), whilst Fergus was getting a brakes overhaul. The chap doing the job mentioned that one of the outer sills was ‘a bit soft’, so I decided to get him checked out. The mechanic/welder, who had worked on Figaros before, was quite local to me, and he had a look and said the passenger side outer sill needed to be replaced, and after a quick check, the same was confirmed for the driver’s side. A quote was provided, and, whilst not cheap, I always break down my Figaro Ownership costs by the number of years I’ve owned the car and, divided by 14, it didn’t seem QUITE as bad!
| | |
The garage was busy (always a good sign, I think!), so work couldn’t commence till early February. A failed MOT followed in December, and then a SORN declaration when the vehicle Tax was due in January. After work commenced, I received a (slightly daunting) call from the mechanic saying that after he had cut away the outer sills, the inner ones were, in his words, ‘pretty shot too’!! My initial reaction was to simply ask, ‘Can he be saved?’, to which he replied, ‘Of course!’
In addition, he found a couple of ‘surprises’ in the passenger footwell and around the rear seatbelt anchorages, which have now also been dealt with. I also asked for a couple of ‘self-inflicted’ scrapes/dents to be sorted. The revised quote did, roughly, double the cost, but, in my view, entirely worth it to save ‘Fergus’.
| |
"I will be excited to get him back, hopefully in a week or two, not just to have him home, but also with the knowledge that he will be solid underneath and well undersealed/WaxOyled!"
Hopefully ready for many, many more years of Figaro Fun!! The main point of my writing this is to emphasise just how hidden rust can be. I’m no MOT expert, however, my understanding is that if rust issues don’t impact the structural integrity/safety of the vehicle, they probably won’t be highlighted at MOT time. So, it’s essential to get regular, thorough checks undertaken. If you have what may be described as ‘surface rust’ around the sills or wheel arches, you will (more than likely) have some more serious stuff going on ‘Beneath’! I’m pretty sure the majority of my rust issues have stemmed from Fergus’s 14 years on UK (West of Scotland) roads. I freely admit I was a bit blasé and certainly didn’t undertake frequent enough checks or renew underseal and other protections regularly enough. Have a look at the photos (some of which certainly fit the ‘Haunting’ image mentioned above!) I had no idea how bad things had got and happily accepted the comments from folk at car shows – as recently as last summer – like ‘What a beautiful example’, and ‘You certainly take great care of the car’!!!
| |
What did it cost?
The total cost was £3,450, including all the surprises. I divided this into the 14 years I’ve owned Fergus, and this worked out at £247 a year. Quick mention to Kieran at Ayrshire Towbar Centre, near Kilmarnock. He was an absolute star and a total perfectionist.
| | |
So, in conclusion – get regular serious checks done and if you don’t ‘Find Rusty’ then that’s wonderful, but if you do, hopefully you’ve found him early enough to save your Figaro!!

Ken loves showing off Fergus and taking the car to as many car shows and events as he can.

34th Birthday Celebrations and Welsh Magical Mystery Tour – Sunday 23rd March 2025
Originally planned to take place a month earlier, this event was well worth waiting for.
| | |
Words by Wales Chapter Coordinator Helen Hunter
Pictures by Kate Thomas
Thankfully, our rescheduled Figaro 34th Birthday Celebration was able to go ahead after being postponed a month earlier because of horrendous weather. I deliberately didn’t detail our stopping off points when I sent out maps/postcodes as I wanted this to be a bit of a (magical) mystery tour – hoping that most of our group didn’t know the area and couldn’t guess where we would be going.
Starting with Caerphilly Castle and its large moat in the background, we didn’t have to drive far for our first stop and photo opportunity, providing some great shots for Kate and Phil, our unofficial photographers. While waiting for members to arrive, we started attracting attention from lots of people visiting the castle. Families with small children seemed enthralled, taking photos, videos, asking questions about the cars – but we all know this about our precious Figgies – they’re so cute and adorable.
Our first stop was at The Twyn, where there is a large, bronze statue of the comedy magician (hence the magic in the mystery tour) Tommy Cooper, who was born in Caerphilly. The majority of our group were surprised to learn this fact.
"Our convoy of colourful Figgies attracted quite a bit of attention as we circumnavigated the town centre – lots of Figgy smiles, waves, and beep beeps from the locals"
| | |
Our next stop was the fairytale-style castle, Castell Coch, another venue that many of our group hadn’t visited before and another fabulous photo opportunity. As we arrived, there was a film crew in the car park who filmed us driving in and parking. Sadly, we didn’t get a chance to ask why they were there filming or if we were going to appear on a particular video/TV programme. We were able to take a peek inside the castle – a folly built for the Marquess of Bute, a wealthy landowner, which was built on the mediaeval ruins of a castle. With more time, it is well worth paying to go inside to view all the unusual, quirky rooms, should anyone be visiting South Wales at some point.
From Castell Coch we travelled along the forestry drive, encountering some very surprised walkers who waved excitedly when they saw us and car drivers beeping as we passed them. Next was a stop at the New House Country Hotel, which has far-reaching views over Cardiff Bay and Penarth – a stunning panorama on sunny days. It was here that we had coffee and a piece of birthday cake to, belatedly, celebrate our Figaro’s 34th Birthday.
Next stop was Parc Cefn Onn on the outskirts of Cardiff to have a stroll in the park to see the beautiful display of Camellias and Magnolia trees. Despite a lack of parking space at the park, fortunately, there was a pub within walking distance where there was sufficient space for parking and plenty of beverages on offer for those who had developed a thirst. Our final stop was at the Ffynnon Wen pub for a late Sunday lunch.
| | |
It was lovely seeing friends we had met at previous events and also meeting new friends who had travelled from near and far. I’d like to thank everyone who participated because I was amazed that members were prepared to travel to Wales for this modest event. Pete and Sandra drove down from Croydon, Ian and Pauline from Taunton, and Philip and Sharon from Street. Suzanne, a new member, who has only had her Pink Figgy for a week, braved the M4 journey from Carmarthen, which, as everyone knows, a motorway can be daunting – well done Suzanne. Our younger members, Charlotte and Phil, from Swansea, were delightful and engaging and suggested ideas and took fab photos around the area. The lovely Kate, who is always willing and able to provide support and photographic expertise, was able to join us despite having to miss her young son’s football match. I also have to thank my husband, Ian, for his support and occasional suggestions for these trips.
We had a great day and we are looking forward to meeting up again at another drive-out. Helen 🙂

Emma Wallace Wedding Day
As a club, we love nothing more than sharing how the Figaro has created so many wonderful memories! Our 'Members' Stories' section is like a treasure chest filled with heartwarming tales, showcasing the delightful journeys we've all embarked on with our beloved cars. Take, for instance, the charming saga of our member Emma, who had a Figaro named 'Sunny' that she adored before parting ways with it. But just when she thought the sun had set on her Figaro dreams, she discovered another gem and named her new ride 'Summer.' 🌞
What makes this story truly special is how 'Summer' took center stage at Emma's wedding, turning what could have been just another day into a spectacular celebration! Talk about a car that steals the spotlight! 🎉 It’s not just a vehicle; it’s a cherished companion that brings warmth, laughter, and unforgettable moments into our lives.

Mel and Margot
This is Melanie is from Bedfordshire. Sue and I meet Mel last year at the Flitwick Car Show and gave her the highest compliment that "she looked like a Figaro owner" ☺️ Unbeknown to us and her parents she actually had a plan in place to get one for a surprise 30th present! Wow!!!

Victoria Hetherington
Victoria lives in Matlock Derbyshire and looking forward to meeting up with people, but have never seen another Fig around yet.

Suzie McRory and Blossom
Suzie saw her beautiful Figaro for the first time two years ago at Brooklands Easter show. Nobody was around her but she had a "for sale" sign attached with mobile number. She didn't get around to ringing the number until the following Tuesday, when I thought it would bound to have been sold. It wasn't! Suzie drove down to Bristol the following Saturday & did the deal. So far she's had 2 wonderful years with 'Blossom'!

Jaymes, his partner and Liz
Here are some pictures of when Jaymes and his partner took his Figaro named Liz to Athelhampton House in Dorset.
As most people in the club may know, Jaymes is an 'Expert of Doctor Who' and tries to take Liz to places where they have filmed Doctor Who in the past.
Jaymes has already taken her to Shapwick, where The Awakening was filmed and to Aldbourne, where The Dæmons was filmed. The latest and one of the prettiest was Athelhampton House, in which the story The Seeds of Doom was filmed was filmed with Tom Baker and Elizabeth Sladen (in which Liz is named after).
The staff loved Liz and allowed him to do a few photos of her on the private drive way. He highly recommends it especially if your in a Figaro - if you do want to take pictures with the car on the drive way you do need to email them in advance for their permission.

AND FINALLY
A JOKE TO TICKLE YOUR FIGARO

THANKS TO FIGARO SMILES

Our son Daniel had always wanted a Figaro having seen the car at his local garage when he was just 16. After saving for several years (plus a small contribution from his mum and dad!) he, at last, brought an emerald green model in May 2008 and named it "Figgy".
Following the purchase, Sue and I searched the internet for a club in the hope we could attend events and meet other owners. We were amazed that at that time no club existed so we thought, well why not and on the 1st March 2009 the Figaro Owners Club was born!
| |
This is a picture of Daniel taken when he was just 19 back in 2008 with Figgy
"We decided to build a basic website and forum which took a few months and on the 1st March 2009, pressed the publish button and waited to see if anyone wanted to join. Within a week we had 10 members, a month 35 and a year 478!"
Today the club has around 1,200 members worldwide in countries including New Zealand, Japan, Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden and many more.
