RIGOP Chairman: Who Is Running Rhode Island's Board of Elections, State Officials or Democratic Political Insiders?

WARWICK, RI: Rhode Island Republican Party Chairman Allyn Meyers is demanding an immediate independent investigation following explosive text messages published by GoLocalProv revealing apparent efforts by politically connected individuals to control communications from the Rhode Island Board of Elections concerning improper campaign contributions to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Helena Foulkes.

"This is outrageous. Since when does an independent state agency outsource communications to politically connected lobbyists and consultants? The Board of Elections is supposed to enforce election laws, not coordinate political damage control for Democratic candidates," Meyers stated.

The messages also document discussions involving Chris Hunter, Miguel Nunez, and a conference call with Foulkes.

"Rhode Islanders deserve to know who authorized this arrangement, what influence these individuals exercised, and why the Foulkes campaign received preferential treatment. An agency responsible for protecting election integrity cannot operate under the apparent supervision of political insiders."

Meyers called for Jennie Johnson's resignation, the immediate release of all related communications, an independent investigation into potential political interference, and a public explanation from Board leadership.

"The Board of Elections must answer to Rhode Island law, not Democratic political operatives. If its independence has been compromised, those responsible must be held accountable."
