Lincoln Lancaster Cnty Health Dept. Women Infants Children (LLCHD WIC)
LLCHD WIC is celebrating National Nutrition Month® in March, an annual campaign sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that highlights the importance of making informed food choices and developing healthy physical activity habits.
This year’s theme, “Discover the Power of Nutrition,” encourages individuals and families to learn how nutritious foods and active lifestyles support overall health and well-being.
WIC is a welcoming program that strengthens families by providing four core services: healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health and social services. It is one of the nation’s most successful and cost-effective public health nutrition programs.

Fighting Flu
Every year it's a roll of the dice. How effective is the flu vaccine going to be?
Flu changes quickly, which means innovative vaccines are needed. In recent trials with over 40,000 adults, a new mRNA flu vaccine candidate, mRNA-1010, showed 26% better protection in adults over 50 with the mRNA flu vaccine than with standard flu shots, a meaningful gain.
This is a significant finding since mRNA vaccines can be updated much faster than traditional flu vaccines allowing them can catch up to mutations more quickly. Early research in trials with adults over 65 years, also suggested stronger immune responses comparable to or stronger than the double dose enhanced flu vaccines used in older adults. The mRNA flu vaccine is now being considered for approval by the FDA.

LPS Wellness Program
focused on student, staff wellbeing.
Though student wellness has become a well established program in LPS, staff wellness programming has been limited. However, two years of collaborative efforts and working with the district insurance provider, has funded an 18-month pilot to enhance wellness resources for staff.
Beginning in January 2025, Vitality, a personalized health system, was introduced allowing staff to improve their own wellness and earn incentives. It has been a big success with 41% of staff (over 3,000 members) taking part in the program.
Staff wellness has a positive trickle-down impact on student wellbeing. Staff who are more informed about and committed to their own wellness are more likely to share that with students. Read more in their March highlight.

Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving and protecting the health, wellness, and fitness of Lincoln's children, families, and seniors.
We work to improve wellness policies and conduct community level health research. We collaborate with community partners to promote healthy weights through good nutrition and fitness, improve child and maternal health by supporting breastfeeding, create better patient outcomes by increasing cancer screening and vaccination rates, improving chronic disease management, increasing preventative outreach, and standardizing clinical practices. During public health crises like the COVID 19 pandemic, we help to protect community health by providing science and evidence-based information.
Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln also works to improve health equity in our community, addressing disparities among populations with the highest burden of chronic disease.
