May 26: Major League Baseball in Portland?
With an eye toward the future, an active group of Oregonians is setting the stage to add another major league sports franchise to Portland – baseball. Leaders in the Oregon Diamond Project have been working with Major League Baseball and the city of Portland, looking for an opportunity to have baseball join basketball and soccer as the area’s professional sports. Mike Barrett, well known sports broadcaster and Portland Diamond Project team member, will describe the process of convincing a major league franchise to locate in Portland which includes a whole lot of money along with a little politics.

Greetings fellow Rotarians,

Two items to highlight for the week:
  • Past President Larry Gray and his grandson Lane will chair our meeting this week, as it’s Boys & Girls Club board meeting week for me.
 
  • Howard Baumann will provide the Club an update on an international scholarship program our Club has invested in.

Annual Fundriaser - For many years, the Rotary Club of Salem has held an annual fundraiser and social gathering to raise funds for an identified major project, the Club's ongoing charitable activities and to support the Salem Rotary Foundation. Although we are unable to hold our event this year, support for these crucial projects and services did not go away and need to be funded. This year, we are asking our members to donate to this special appeal. We need to raise $50,000 to fulfill our project goals. These generous club members: Don and Teresa Lulay, Ozzie Rose, Mike Carrick, Linda Wooters, Larry Hanslits, and an anonymous Rotarian donor, will match up to $25,000 – half our goal, making every dollar you donate go twice as far! We have 100% of the board donating to our Good Works campaign as well. Please consider donating the amount that you usually spend at our annual fundraising event by supporting this appeal. Click here to donate online or send a check to:
