Kristen van Ginhoven joins Project SAGE as Executive Director

Project SAGE is thrilled to welcome Kristen van Ginhoven as its new Executive Director at a defining time in the organization’s history.

With over 20 years of management, relationship-building, and fundraising experience, Kristen is passionate about creating social change and is inspired by Project SAGE’s mission and potential for growth. She looks forward to deepening and expanding awareness of Project SAGE’s programs in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut and beyond.

Most recently, as Producing Artistic Director & Founder of WAM Theatre in Lenox, Massachusetts, Kristen worked at the intersection of arts and activism, producing and directing plays that focused on issues affecting those who self-identify as women and girls. During her tenure, WAM also donated $100,000 to 25 local and global organizations that work toward gender equity in areas such as girls’ education, teen pregnancy prevention, gender-based violence, sexual-trafficking awareness, midwife training, and more.

When not working, Kristen enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking and meditating, learning new things, serving as a monthly panelist on WAMC’s award winning talk program, The Roundtable, and attending arts and cultural events in the Berkshires, where she resides.

In her new role at Project SAGE, Kristen will collaborate with a highly engaged Board of Directors and a committed staff to provide vision and overall leadership, as she works to plan, implement, and evaluate the educational programs and client services of Project SAGE in accordance with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.

Spotlight on Project SAGE

Project SAGE Stands with Blue Campaign

According to the Polaris Project, people who identify as LGBTQIA+ can be especially vulnerable to human trafficking, partially due to lack of resources and discrimination. This and every June, Project SAGE stands with the US Department of Homeland Security's Blue Campaign by celebrating #PrideMonth and helping to protect the LGBTQIA+ community from human trafficking in all its forms.

The following resources aim to educate LGBTQIA+ communities and their allies about human trafficking and empower individuals and advocates to report suspected cases:

When we work together to combat human trafficking, we make our world a safer place for everyone. You can follow Blue Campaign @DHSBlueCampaign on X, Facebook, and Instagram for more information.

SHORT VIDEO

Gaslighting is a type of emotional and psychological abuse in which an abuser convinces his or her victim that the abuse didn’t actually occur or wasn’t nearly as severe as the survivor remembers.  This highly effective method of exerting control isn't always easy to spot. Learn more here: Gaslighting: Could You be Missing the Signs?

GRAPHIC NOVEL

One Love Foundation has released a new graphic novel that follows 3 storylines -- Ros and Ari, Natalia and Jo, and Bailey, Zara, and Zach -- to help explore the complicated dynamics that come up in relationships. Are the dynamics healthy or unhealthy? What choices could the characters make differently? Find out more here: Love Is Learned

ARTICLE

It’s common to hear domestic violence spoken about in heterosexual, cis-gender terms, but statistics show that abuse occurs at the same frequency and severity among the LGBTQ+ community. Unfortunately, LGBTQ+ domestic violence is immensely underreported, unacknowledged, or not reported as domestic abuse because of fear of homophobia, transphobia or sexism. Read more and find out how LGBTQ+ victims and survivors can get help: Domestic Violence Among LGBTQ+ Partners Just as Prevalent

RESOURCE LIST

This list of national resources, compiled by One Love Foundation, provides links to phone / text-based hotlines and websites for LGBTQ+ individuals experiencing violence and other types of crisis: National LGBTQ+ Service Providers & Helplines

*Please keep in mind that many partners who use violence check their partner's electronic devices, so if you want to go on a website or call a hotline, you may want to do it from a friend's device or a public device.

RESOURCE GUIDE

Connecticut's Human Antitrafficking Response Team (HART) has updated their Internet Safety Resource Guide. Designed for parents and other caregivers, this guide is designed to help teach children how to be safe online before they start using the Internet. You can find it here: Internet Safety Guide for Caregivers
