Inland Press Foundation commits significant gift to America’s Newspapers Foundation

Gift will strengthen local news


The Inland Press Foundation has generously committed its entire endowment to the America’s Newspapers Foundation. This gift will further its mission of protecting and advancing local newspapers across the United States. Five representatives from the Inland Foundation board have joined the America’s Newspapers Foundation board.


This contribution represents a significant investment in the future of local journalism, reinforcing the role of newspapers as trusted voices in their communities.

Leonard Woolsey elected president of America's Newspapers for 2024-25

Leonard Woolsey, president of Southern Newspapers and president and publisher of The Daily News in Galveston, Texas, has been elected president of America's Newspapers for 2024-25. The election of officers and directors was held Oct. 22 during the Senior Leadership Conference in Charleston.


In addition to Woolsey, the following officers were elected:


  • Vice President: Matt McMillan, CEO, Press Publications, White Bear Lake, Minnesota
  • Treasurer: Patrick Dorsey, publisher, Santa Fe New Mexican


Heidi Wright, COO of EO Media Group and publisher of The Bulletin in Bend, Oregon, becomes immediate past president.


Board of Directors:


Five industry executives were re-elected to serve additional three-year terms on the board of directors:


  • Michael Fishman, president, Lakeway Publishers, Inc., and publisher, Citizen Tribune, Morristown, Tennessee
  • Brian Jarvis, president, WV News, Clarksburg, West Virginia
  • Ted McGrew, vice president, sales, newspaper segment, Kodak
  • Nick Monico, COO, Adams Publishing Group
  • Susan Patterson Plank, vice president of public notice and strategic transformation, USA TODAY Network


Five industry executives were elected to initial terms on the board:


  • Otis Brumby, president and publisher, Marietta (Georgia) Daily Journal
  • Kevin Craig, CEO, PAGE Cooperative
  • John DeAugustine, president and publisher, Schenectady (New York) Daily Gazette
  • Bala Sundaramoorthy, president and chief operating officer, Tampa Bay Times
  • David Woronoff, publisher, The Pilot, Southern Pines, North Carolina

As Leonard Woolsey steps into the leadership of America's Newspapers as its newly elected president, he is focused on the value that the association brings to newspapers across the country — including those that may not yet be members. In an interview with America's Newspapers, he said the organization is the “thread that stitches newspapers together” — much like local newspapers are the thread that stitch their communities together.

Judi Terzotis honored with 2024 Frank W. Mayborn Leadership Award from America's Newspapers


Judi Terzotis, CEO of Georges Media Group, was honored with the Frank W. Mayborn Leadership Award on Monday during the Senior Leadership Conference of America's Newspapers.


The award was presented by Heidi Wright, president of America's Newspapers and chief operating officer of EO Media Group and publisher of The Bulletin in Bend, Oregon. In presenting the award, Wright said: “It's hard to imagine anyone in our industry who has been more generous with her time and expertise than Judi.”

Carmage Walls Commentary Awards are announced at Senior Leadership Conference


America's Newspapers recognized excellence in editorial writing and column writing at its Senior Leadership Conference yesterday. The Carmage Walls Commentary Awards honoring the memory of her father were presented by Lissa Walls Cribb, CEO of Southern Newspapers.

Inland Foundation names Patty Slusher as 2024 Distinguished Service Award recipient


The Inland Press Foundation has named Patty Slusher, a longtime association executive, the winner of the 2024 Inland Foundation Distinguished Service Award.


Slusher received the award at the annual meeting of America’s Newspapers on Oct. 21st in Charleston, South Carolina. This is the 33rd year that the award has been presented.
