4th Quarter - 2024 Edition

In the rush of holiday events and the many preparations of the festive season, we sometimes are so busy and tend to overlook the important friendships that develop through our love of the game of hockey.

One of the great pleasures of the Holiday Season is the opportunity to exchange warm greetings with those whose friendship and goodwill are valued so highly.

In this spirit, as we approach the end of another rewarding year, proudly our 25th Anniversary Year; we'd like to extend our sincere "THANK YOU" to all of our loyal supporters:

• Our community partners who help us extend our reach throughout Calgary and surrounding areas

• Our friends and colleagues who have become our good & strong ambassadors in the community

• And especially our valued hockey program participants who we proudly serve on their quest for hockey enjoyment and success.

We look forward to continuing this strong relationship and enhancing your love of the game in the future. Cheers to more glide in your stride!!

Bradley Mersereau Memorial 2024 Q4

Adult Award Recipient

Jody Roberts

When Jody's son Luke started to show interest in hockey he sought after additional development for him with Tucker Hockey. As Jody started to get back into the game himself, he felt he needed a little additional training for himself and the Tucker Hockey Adult Fundamentals was the perfect fit. There was a point where Jody was on the ice 2-3 times a week through the year with Tucker Hockey programs!

Jody loves many sports but feels that hockey by far is the most exciting sport to play and watch! The speed at which the game is played and executed just shows how these athletes are the most talented of any sport out there. Jody notes that he has met a lot of great people through hockey, had some great interactions and ton of good laughs!

Congratulations on receiving the Bradley Mersereau Memorial Award Jody! Besides participating in our individual programs, Jody and Luke have skated together in our adult programs as a Father and Son combo, which indeed was a special hockey moment on the ice! Bottom line, they are good people and love their hockey!

Coach Rex's Corner

Hockey IQ Development

We are what we

repeatedly do –

excellence then –

is not an act –

but a habit.

~ Aristotle

Hockey players of all ages and skills need to work on their hockey fundamentals i.e. skating, puck control, passing, shooting and checking. The best all round players today, spends time each day on the

fundamentals of their game. However, fundamentals are not

enough.

A player will not become a great player if they can’t apply these skills effectively in a game. Hockey sense

separates the very best from the rest. Hockey sense is the tactical thinking part of the game. Hockey sense is a learned skill and players are not born with this trait.

Coach Rex believes that players with strong Hockey IQ play the game with their head up, and make good decisions on the ice with speed while

under pressure. Even while in a state of fatigue. Players are consistent each shift, period, and game throughout the season in making good decisions with the puck and when they don’t

have the puck.

If you are not doing it - start making it more a part of your game - develop into a “complete” hockey player.

Think Hockey - develop your Hockey IQ.

Danny Cammack

2024 Q4

Memorial Minor

Award Recipient

Sidney Dell

Sidney started playing hockey when he was in first grade. At the time he split his time during the winter between hockey and snowboarding. Recently, Sidney had decided to stop snowboarding and focus more on hockey.

In his free time Sidney likes to draw, skateboard and play video games. He is also active at his school in the drama program and as a school photographer. Impressive range of skills, Sidney!

Congratulations Sidney on receiving the Danny Cammack Memorial Award! It was great to have you participate in our Tucker Hockey programs this past Summer. You have many of Danny’s traits – being polite, showing up to learn, working hard and loving the game!

We wish you an enjoyable hockey season and much success on & off the ice. Hope to see you again soon in our Tucker Hockey programs!

Q4 2024 Poll Question

Results from Q3 2024 Poll

Who will be the Calgary Flames No: 1 goalie in the first quarter (20 games) of the season?

Results from the poll:

Other - 29 %

Devin Cooley - 25 %

Dan Vladar - 25 %

Dustin Wolf - 21 %

After the first 20 games of the season there is still no clear No: 1 Flames goalie. Dustin Wolf has a slight edge. He has started in 11 games and Dan Vladar has started in 9 games respectively. Both goalies have played well with the Flames coaching staff rotating their goalies every other game for the most part. It is anticipated for the remainder of the season they will continue to share the load fairly equally unless there are injuries. It's been a bright spot on the team!

Adult Group

Program Testimonial

"Started with Tucker hockey as a complete beginner in 2012, Coach Rex, Jimmy, Ron, and the crew are really supportive, encouraging, and provide excellent instruction. The programs are great, lots of fun and have met some really good people through the years."

~ Sam T. – Fall 2023

Minor Group

Program Testimonial

““It was my first experience with power skating so I didn’t know what to expect nor can I comment on the curriculum. What I can say though, is that my son’s skating and hockey skills are noticeable better and more fine tuned now than they were before, therefore, the goal was accomplished.”

~ Tonia B, Mother of Bennett – Winter 2018
