Follow Up to Local Earthquake Activity

Good afternoon SI COAD,

I'm writing just to offer a brief follow up on the earthquake activity experienced across the NY metro-area this morning.

We have heard from some members (thank you for reaching out!) and are aware that some anxious confusion was experienced at/around local schools. Otherwise and on the whole, though, the impact (thankfully!) appears to have been brief and minimal. If you have a notable experience or are in need of resources re: this event, please feel free to reply to this email.

Staten Islanders can report earthquake activity to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) here. Why bother? The SI COAD always wants to make sure our borough is represented in data collection and considerations for support. The USGS creates maps that show what people experienced and the extent of damage.

Updates from NYC

NYCEM encourages residents to visit on.nyc.gov/earthquake for tips on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake, and information as to how the City of New York responds to these incidents.
