The Message this Week
Preaching Text: John 17:1-5
Glimpses of heaven! Our reading from Revelation paints a picture of heaven – full of jewels, shiny things and mysterious things. Maybe this is what some think about when they think of heaven. For any of us who have experienced a loss, we know that it’s not shiny things or mysterious things that we are longing to see. We are looking to see the people we’ve loved; restored, whole, and ready to greet us. Our Gospel lesson reminds us that the clearest glimpses of heaven are the ones we see in Jesus and all of the people we’ve loved who have shown us His love, care, and joy.
Mighty God, thank you for Jesus who brings heaven to earth and to our lives. In our memories of loved ones may we experience your love, care, hope, and joy and then live our lives in response. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
