It’s hard to trust anything these days and we should remain leery of what people claim. The DVBA has a rival, claiming to represent the building industry. They claim that the Desert Valleys Builders Association is not supporting the building industry.
The DVBA is the legitimate representative of the building industry for the Eastern Riverside County and Imperial County. We are chartered by the National Association of Home Builders. We represent more than just home builders. We represent nearly all construction industries: commercial, industrial, geothermal, photovoltaic, and wind and battery energy generation and storage. Just as important are all the other businesses and industries that aid in the development of these projects, those that plan, finance, create and add to the quality of the final and completed productions.
The Desert Valleys Builders Association does more than put on social events. Most of our events provide our members with information at the Public Officials’ Luncheons, learning about projects in our cities, a dinner event in Brawley learning about the many economic resources of the Imperial Valley, or our Legislative Affairs Forum at 7:30am, on the first Thursday of every month, at the Rancho Mirage City Hall conference room. This is where the city representatives, and state representatives discuss current legislation, public works projects, and new commercial and residential developments coming to the valley.
Did you know that the counties, each city, the water and sewer districts, special districts and school districts each have the opportunity to charge extensive fees for new building construction? Currently in our region these fees approach $65,000-$70,000 ‘all-in’ before a foundation is laid or a stick is put in the ground.
It is not unheard of that these agencies may charge fees that exceed the costs of the infrastructure or services provided. Such fees increase the costs paid by builders/developers that will eventually be paid for by new home buyers and new business owners. If these carried costs are deemed too much, then the projects don’t get built and nearly forty associate businesses reliant on new construction projects don’t have jobs for their employees either. A $1,000 increase on a home price, eliminates approximately 15,000 families looking to buy a home.
The Desert Valleys Builders Association devotes significant man-hours confirming that our local agencies charge fees that can be legally supported by legislated standards. We are fortunate that only a few of our agencies lack compliance. The rival company claiming to represent the building industry focuses solely on spending monies on electing particular candidates to office and lobbying for residential or commercial developments that pay for their lobbying services at and between planning commission meetings and city council meetings. There is nothing unlawful about their practices, but that organization picks only certain developments to support. The Desert Valleys Builders Association creates situations that benefit the entire industry every day. Ask what you are buying when this other agency asks for you to join their membership or events. Also, keep in mind those funds first go back to their offices in Orange County.
The DVBA’s home is here in the desert. We are your neighbors. Our kids went to school here. Our resources benefit the desert communities. We ask that you look out for your neighbors.
