Our Mission:

The preservation of an ecologically healthy Lake Maxinkuckee and its watershed

The LMEF board recently met for our annual meeting, electing officers for the year, prepping for our June fundraising campaign, and getting ready for summer activities.

So many in our Town, Gown, and Lake community have served with LMEF over the last four decades, in many different capacities. We are grateful for everyone who has taken their turn in grabbing, holding, and passing the "torch" of lake stewardship! (Or is it a fishing rod? A tiller? A mixed drink? Let's stay with torch, I suppose).

The buoy is back!

Big shout out to Jeff's PWC & Marine, who helped us deploy the data buoy for season #2! It is back in Aubbeenaubbee Bay (Rowing Center). Go check out the live data.

LMEF joined many other community partners on the banks of the Tippecanoe River at Potawatomi Wildlife Park for Marshall County TreeFest 2026. Second graders from Culver Community (and hundreds from other districts) went through stations around the park, learning about native plants, birds, tree care, and more.

At our station, kids got to thinking about how trees and solar panels are similar, and different. We can store sunlight with trees in the form of maple syrup, but also in within batteries. What can we power, and how? A portable solar array and battery helped with our physics lesson.

Our neighbors at The Watershed Foundation are hosting a "Healthy Shorelines Workshop" on the evening of June 18th (50 min east of Culver). "Learn how to transform your lawn and lakeshore into a healthy shoreline." Read more and register for this FREE event here.

LMEF will be present at the library's Summer Reading Kickoff. Bring the kids on May 29th, 12 - 4:30.

THIS Thursday evening at the REES Theatre, the Marshall County Soil and Water Conservation district will be showing their first film of their Incredible Indiana Summer Film Series.

Don't miss this one... This is probably the most extensive documentary on Indiana ecology ever made. This production of Lakeshore Public Media tells the story of the Grand Kankakee Marsh, which was located in the watershed just to the north of Maxinkuckee. It shared most of the flora and fauna we are familiar with at the lake.

"Just say No to No Mow May" Garden designer Benjamin Vogt shares his opinion on why he believes the "No Mow May" idea is counterproductive.
