A New Browser from Microsoft - Edge

For years, the tech community had pleaded with Microsoft to improve their browser from Internet Explorer due to it's slow speed and the vulnerabilities it carried. In 2015, they introduced an entirely new browser - Edge. In 2020, that browser became a truly viable option for use.

Easy Transition

The new Microsoft Edge functions similarly to industry leaders Chrome and Firefox, so switching to the new browser seems seamless. In fact, the new Edge is designed to import anything that the user has saved in other browsers, so setup takes a matter of minutes and the new Edge is setup just the same as your previous browser.

In just a few clicks, the browser is able to import favorites, browsing history, passwords, payment info and browser add-ons. The new Edge is designed to function with the existing add-ons for Chrome and will seamlessly bring them into the new browser. It is also possible to import just some of those, which is ideal for those worried about privacy and are seeking to keep password and payment information off of any browser where it has the potential to be compromised.

Increased Security

In addition to the ease of setup, one of the major improvements made in the browser is security. Edge has privacy settings which tend to be more accessible and understandable for users. They can also be more secure, so much so that some sites believe that the user has ad blockers installed.

The additional security, especially in a time like this pandemic when the rate of attacks is increasing rapidly as the news cycles increase. It is certainly a reason to switch to the new Edge. This is especially true if you've been using the old Edge browser or Internet Explorer which lacked the security that other browsers have offered.

Less Allocated Resources

Although the new Edge runs on the basis of Chromium - the same program that serves as the underlying engine for the Google Chrome browser - Edge takes up much less RAM to run. One of the issues that some users face, particularly those with older PCs, is that opening browser tabs would create a sluggish device. Edge may not be the end all solution, but it has the ability to perform the same tasks while using less of the PC's resources.

It isn't for everyone and some may not wish to switch, but it is important to realize there is another option available to all. It may be worth using the new browser for a few days to see if it is something that suits you.
