Valentine's Day Dinner Plans?
Dodge the crowds and save some money this Valentine’s day by treating yourself and a loved one to a home cooked meal.

This heart-healthy Dijon Salmon and Veggies takes just 25 minutes from start to finish and can be cooked all on one sheet pan, meaning less time spent washing dishes.

The Heart of the Matter

Heart disease – also referred to as cardiovascular disease – is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States.

Despite its widespread prevalence, heart disease is considered largely preventable through diet and lifestyle choices. Taking small steps to adopt healthier lifestyle habits now can help prevent or delay the onset or progression of heart disease in the future.

Outreach: TMCC Community Resource Fair
AHN attended a successful event at the Truckee Meadows Community College .

This event was able to help their students gain the knowledge of community resources available to them and their families.

We look forward to our next outreach event!

About our Diabetes Self-Management Education
" "Our goal here is not to just teach people how to manage their diabetes but to actually walk them through the process and hold their hand," said Hochreiter. "So, by the time its the end of the six weeks, they feel like they have the tools and resources and the skills to be able to manage their diabetes not just today but for weeks, months, years to come."

Kara Hochreiter is our health education manager at Access to Healthcare Network and is setting up these workshops.

She said about 10 percent of adults in Nevada have a diabetes diagnosis, while across the United States 30 million adults have some type of diabetes.

That number is expected to grow." (Click Here to see full article & Interview)

Health Care Costs Greatest for Lower-Income Households
Families in the bottom fifth of income groups pay nearly a third of their income towards health care a new RAND Corporation study found. Meanwhile, households in the highest income group pay 16 percent of their income towards health care costs. Although higher-income households finance health care the most, the burden of payments is greatest among lower-income households.
Insurers Believe Proposed Price Transparency Rule Costs Too Much
Insurance groups say the Trump Administration’s proposed price transparency rule for insurers will cost 26 times more than previously estimated. The rule, proposed by the Treasury, Labor and Health and Human Services departments late last year, would mandate insurers to disclose negotiated rates for in-network providers and allowed amounts for out-of-network care. In addition to the high costs, insurers worry that they would have to share an overwhelming amount of data.
