A HEARTFELT THANK YOU!

This past weekend was our Walk to End Alzheimers with Team “Mary’s Memories Matter.”  We had 28 walkers! Mary’s team included family, friends, neighbors, honorary grandchildren, Mary’s college roommate, who she hasn’t seen in 35 years, teachers from Marlboro HS, where Mary spent her entire career , church friends, and Rotary friends - all who came together for the same cause - to raise awareness and donations for Alzheimers and other dementia diseases while remembering some that have passed and honoring some who are still living with Alzheimers and dementia daily, like Mary. Our fabulous team raised just shy of $7,000 thanks to MANY of you! We were the second highest fundraising team on Cape Cod! Mary and I can’t thank you, the parishioners of St. John’s enough.  So, thank you - thank you to those that walked and those who donated. We are so grateful! Mary and Alan Carlson.

OUTREACH QUESTIONNAIRE: St. John's Outreach Committee is asking you to complete the questionnaire which is on the table in the Narthex. You can drop it in the collection plate, or leave it in the basket in the Narthex. We can email a copy for you to complete and return by mail or email. Thank you!

CHRISTMAS FAIR BAKE SALE: Bakers needed! Melissa Abbott reminds you that baked goods can be frozen ahead of time for the Fair. Let’s get a head start on stocking up for the bake sale. Donations can be delivered to the office during business hours.

CARING FOR CREATION COMMITTEE: Join us on Fridays at 10am via Zoom link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/86013659293. Ask Steve Tom or Fr. Al for details.

JOIN US! Tuesday, October 27 from 7-8:30pm in the Parish Hall for the latest Caring for Creation series presentation by Dr. Katherine "Katie" Ghantous, of the UMASS Amherst Cranberry Station, who will explore the rich history of Massachusetts cranberries, horticultural practices used, and challenges facing cranberry growers. A question and answer session will be included. Caring for Creation programs are free, open to the public, light refreshments are served, and all are welcome. Bring a friend or two to this informative, and relevant presentation!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SERVE AS LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS. St. John’s needs additional LEM’s to serve at both Saturday 5 PM and Sunday 9:30 AM services. We have only two sharing the Saturday service, and currently 3 sharing Sunday, which will decrease to 2 after January 1. This is not sufficient, when one includes vacations and unexpected absences for illness, accidents, etc. We need to double this number. If you feel called to volunteer for this ministry, email Charlie Diana at charles77d@comcast.net.

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS CREW: Currently there are 3 steadfast volunteers who maintain our buildings and grounds. This ministry could use a few additional volunteers to help share the weekly cleaning and maintenance of our facilities. No experience is necessary and we appreciate whatever time you can offer. Please prayerfully consider how you might offer your time and talents to this ministry. Contact Fr. Al, Alan Carlson, or call the office during business hours.

Team "Mary's Memories Matter" 2026

Dr. Katie Ghantous of the UMASS Amherst Cranberry Station will present a program on Tuesday, October 27th in the Parish Hall from 7-8:30pm providing an overview of cranberry agriculture. Please join us for this free Caring for Creation series presentation. All are welcome! Programs are free, and light refreshments are served.

WE NEED CANDY DONATIONS!

NOTE: WORSHIP SERVICE ON OCTOBER 31ST WILL BE AT 3PM.

Food Donations can be left in the box in the Narthex. We are most grateful! For questions, or additional information, see Ashton Bradford.

BAKER'S AND BAKED GOODS NEEDED. We have a freezer to store your baked goods for the Christmas Fair. Bring them to a worship service or drop them in the office during business hours.

If you have news or celebrations that you would like shared in this space, please call or email the office with your celebrations, pictures, or other information that might be of interest to our Messenger subscribers. 508-888-2828 (Tues-Fri, 9AM-2PM) or email: parishadmin@stjohnssandwich.org

DAILY LIVING PRACTICES TO CARE FOR CREATION

During October and November we focus on the importance of air in our Daily Living Practices to Care for Creation. Air is our ocean in which we live, move, and have our being. Our impact on the quality of the air impacts all creatures. In December we add the themes of hope and expectation of the Advent season.

Quotation for your Meditation

Let's Clear the Air

I would love to live in a world where,

Everyone aspires to breathe the cleanest and freshest of air,

Air so pure it's beyond compare, I want the whole world to agree and to be aware,

That it takes action from us all to lessen pollution so it's fair,

If we all cooperate it would show we care,

To have clear, clean air for future generations to share, We'd be much happier and healthier I swear, If we could all work together to get there.

Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources-2021 Winning Poem By: Christian Cale, 5th grade

Suggestions for Personal Action

Clean air is essential for healthy lungs. The American Lung Association works to ensure that the air we breathe is clean and safe from harmful pollution. Learn more about how polluted air can make you sick and what can be done to improve air quality for everyone. Consult this website *(https://www.lung.org/clean-air) for advice on clean air at home; at work; at school.

If you cook with natural gas, take some basic precautions to limit the amount of methane and other unburned gases that linger in the indoor air of your home. They can have serious consequences on health. If you have a stove fan, turn it on to evacuate as much as possible of these harmful gases from inside the house. Otherwise, crack open a window or two.

If replacing your stove or cook top, look into electrical induction cooking. Go to the Mass. Clean Energy Center for more information:
