Why I Decided to Run for Larkspur City Council

Hello Friend,

After a great deal of thought, I've decided to run for Larkspur City Council because I believe our community deserves thoughtful, experienced leadership that listens, brings people together, and plans responsibly for the future.

Larkspur has been my home since 2002. During that time, I've had the privilege of serving our community in many ways, including 18 years as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner, helping guide the City's Parks Master Plan, serving as a founding member of The Commons Foundation to help make our new library a reality, founding the Larkspur Rec'ing Crew to support youth programs and community events, serving as a Rotarian, and working with the Salvation Army Marin. These experiences have given me the opportunity to work alongside residents, volunteers, businesses, nonprofits, and city leaders who all care deeply about our community.

I'm running because I believe the next chapter of Larkspur presents tremendous opportunities. Our new library and future recreation building should become the heart of our community, creating welcoming spaces for families, seniors, students, and local organizations while expanding programs and events that bring people together.

We must also thoughtfully address the challenges ahead. State housing requirements, sea level rise, infrastructure improvements, and transportation all require careful planning that protects the character and quality of life that make Larkspur so special. I believe we can meet these challenges while preserving our parks, open spaces, neighborhoods, and small-town charm.

Our local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations are the heart of Larkspur. They create opportunities for connection, support our local economy, and make our city a place where people want to live, work, and gather. Too often, these voices are overlooked. I want to ensure they have a seat at the table as we make decisions about our future.

For more than 30 years, my professional career has focused on leadership, operations, community engagement, and building partnerships throughout Marin County. I believe those experiences, combined with my long history of volunteer service, have prepared me to serve our city with integrity, collaboration, and a practical approach to solving problems.

I'm not running to represent one neighborhood or one point of view. I'm running to represent the entire Larkspur community and to help ensure that future generations enjoy the same welcoming, vibrant city that has meant so much to all of us.

I would be honored to earn your support, your ideas, and your vote. Together, we can continue building a Larkspur that respects its history while preparing thoughtfully for the future.

Thank you,

Jeanne Friedel

Heart of Larkspur

Happy 4th of July

So proud to have had the opportunity to walk in the Larkspur Corte Madera Fourth July Parade.

Since 1969, making it one of the lonest running parades in the county the parade keeps its emphasis on community over spectacle making it a true family affair.
