Calling All Future Scientists & Engineers

The Links to STEM: Inspire Genius program is beginning its 12th year. We are seeking a class of 35 diverse students. A flyer and application for new students is attached. If you know any students who may be interested, please encourage them to apply. New students must currently be in the 3rd or 4th grade to be eligible to apply. The application deadline is March 1, 2025.

The goal of this program is to enhance each student’s knowledge of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) related issues and to increase their interest in STEM related college majors and careers. We understand that it is critical for our students to be able to compete in a global market and that students who embrace STEM at an early age are more likely to be prepared to meet the educational and employment challenges of the future. The cost to participate in this program is $50 per child (this includes STEM workshops, field trips, a Links to STEM t-shirt and sweatshirt).

Health and Wellness Directory

We want to help you with tools to "Thrive in 2025"!

Do you have a business that provides health and wellness for individuals and families in the County of San Diego, Orange County, or the Inland Empire?

We are creating a Health & Wellness Directory housed on the Urban League of San Diego County website. This will include a behavioral health directory and a general health and wellness directory. According to the attendees of our Fireside Chats, areas in our communities lack health resources and need more urgent care facilities, especially ones open after 5 p.m. Our young families need a directory and a resource toolkit that includes accepted insurance information and medical professionals with cultural sensitivity training for diverse community members. This will be an online business list versus a case management site. Individuals will be directed to contact hotlines if they need to speak to a live person or need case management services.

This can be mental health, medical health, doula professional health, promotoras/ community health worker, physical health, fitness, or nutritional health businesses. This can be small, extensive, private practice, or consulting businesses.

Countywide Financial Aid Blitz on January 25th

Cal-SOAP is hosting its 2nd annual Countywide Financial Aid Blitz on January 25th from 9 am-12 pm in partnership with several community-based organizations and higher educational institutions. The blitz will ensure that any student in SD County can go to one of 25 strategically located host sites to get assistance with financial aid forms. The goal is to get as many student submissions for FAFSA and the CA Dream Act as possible on this regional day of action. Last year this event supported 1,000 students at 20 locations, this year we expanded and hope to reach more students! Check out the blog post Cecilia Morales from the San Diego Foundation wrote about the 2024 event.

Sending the student/parent registration link for you to also share with students in your networks.
