The sale of MSBT properties in Alabama and Connecticut finalized over the Summer months. This marks a significant step in a larger process initiated about two years ago with the decision to divest of the properties. Although this season of letting go is difficult, and often painful, it is also a time of deepening trust in Divine Providence and in the steadfast guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The new owners of both properties have expressed their intention of using these sites as places of outreach and welcome, healing and recovery, ministry and service, especially to children and families. We are hopeful that the properties of our beloved and historic missions of Trinita and Blessed Trinity Shrine Retreat will continue to be used as a Power for Good in the lives of people for generations to come.
| Praying for our Benefactors | Throughout our history, MSBT have avoided taking on institutions, with only a few exceptions. That means, when we leave a mission, we generally don’t leave much tangible evidence behind. Does that mean it is like we were never there? Does it mean there’s no evidence of our service? Of course not! If we have done our work well, there is intangible evidence: Catholics whose faith is stronger, or children whose health or education has been improved, or families that are healthier, or volunteers who know they are missionaries… We believe the Power of the Good we do outlasts us. | Mother Boniface Keasey, MSBT and Father Thomas A. Judge, CM pictured with MSBTs serving in the hospital mission | One of the few exceptions was in 1925 when MSBTs took over leadership of a hospital in Gadsden, Alabama. It was at risk of closing and leaving the community without adequate medical care. MSBT Sisters were able to stabilize operations of what became known as Holy Name of Jesus Hospital and, additionally, establish an affiliated School of Nursing. | |
We recently found in our MSBT Archives donor plaques that honor benefactors who helped sustain the hospital mission over the years. The Sisters eventually left the mission in 1991, yet the good they were able to provide during that critical time for the hospital lives on it what is now known as Riverview Regional Medical Center that continues providing quality medical care to the regional community today.

If we had plaques for all the donors who have sustained our missionary works throughout our history, the MSBT Archives could not contain them all! But they are all remembered faithfully in prayer. Father Judge was clear that we MSBT are to pray always for our benefactors and donors, living and deceased. We especially pray for them on the second day of every month. Our gratitude for our supporters does not end after we leave a mission. Our donors and benefactors have made all our missionary works possible—and their Power for Good lives on!

The Jubilee honors the milestone anniversary years of our Sisters’ vowed religious life. Below we highlight five of our 2026 Sister Jubilarians.
May God continue to bless their faithful service!
| | | | Mary Frances Gallagher was born in June of 1927 to Irish immigrant parents who settled in Philadelphia, PA. She grew up in a small family, having one sibling, her sister Ann. | | | | Sr. Anne William has always loved our MSBT charism and was inspired to learn that our Founder, Fr. Thomas A. Judge, CM was also from Boston. | | | | Born in Puerto Rico, Sr. Carmen Teresa was drawn to the MSBTs because of the love for the poor that was made manifest in the daily lives of the Sisters. | | | | Along with service to God and to the poor, devotion to her family and heritage remain at the center of Sr. Catherine McCarthy’s life. | | | | Sr. Patricia Cronin was born in Massachusetts and has one bother and one sister. As a young adult, she was drawn to the diversity of MSBT ministries. | | Our next issue will feature Sr. Sara Butler, Sr. Gail Lambert, and Sr. Brenda Hermann celebrating their 70th; Sr. Loretta Soltis celebrating her 60th and Sr. Christine Ma celebrating her 25th. | | |
Historical Films:
Scenes from New Jersey
| | |
This is our second offering from the stash of old 16mm films in the MSBT Archives. We are not sure of the locations or exact years, as usual. Here are a few things to look for: we think Dr. Margaret Healy is in the line of MSBT emerging from the house. We think Father Judge is seen briefly, standing next to a boy. We are pretty sure the outdoor views and interior shots of the big house are from Stirling NJ, including the sledding scene.
There’s a story Father Vincent Fitzpatrick, ST once told on himself about the trials and tribulations of serving on a particularly challenging committee. One of his confreres was resisting their efforts, and blurted out, “Isn’t there anyone young on this committee?” To which Vincent replied, “Well….. we were young when we started.” These film clips remind us that our venerable pioneer members, whom we only knew in their later years, were also young when they started!
