Ozone Action Day Alert for

Wednesday, May 13, 2026

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day Alert for Wednesday, May 13, 2026. This means that air quality is expected to be unhealthy for individuals with lung ailments such as asthma or emphysema; for young children whose lungs are still developing; and for those who work or exercise outside for extended periods of time. People in these sensitive groups are advised to avoid prolonged exposure outdoors during the mid-day to early evening hours or by staying indoors during this time. Outdoor burning should be avoided on Ozone Action Days (contact TCEQ for more information on State burning policy).

Whether at work or at home, you can improve air quality year round by doing the following:

  • Avoid drive-thru lanes - go inside instead
  • Drive the speed limit or less - driving at slower speeds uses less fuel
  • Drive less by walking, bicycling, and postponing or combining errands to reduce the number of trips
  • Share a ride to work or school - for more information visit Alamo Commutes
  • Use teleconferencing instead of driving to meetings or bundle meetings together
  • Ask your employer about flex scheduling, telecommuting, or compressed workweeks to avoid rush hour
  • Take your lunch to work or school
  • Keep your vehicles well-maintained to reduce tailpipe emissions - properly inflated tires use less fuel
  • Only refuel your vehicle after 6 p.m.
  • Postpone landscaping using small gasoline engines until after 6 p.m.

Pollution levels and forecasts are posted daily at Air Now.
