Parkinson’s Patients Can Fight Back With Rock Steady Boxing
Have you or your loved ones recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease? There are ways that you can “Fight Back” against the progression of the symptoms. Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) classes are one of the ways that you can do that, and we have RSB classes available several times a week at The Centre of Elgin.
Various studies in the 1980s and 1990s supported the notion that rigorous exercise, emphasizing gross motor movement, balance, core strength, and rhythm, could favorably impact range of motion, flexibility, posture, gait, and activities of daily living. More recent studies, most notably at Cleveland Clinic, focus on the concept of intense “forced” exercise and have begun to suggest that certain kinds of exercise may be neuro-protective, i.e., actually slowing disease progression. Our clients attest, and academic institutions report and document, the improved quality of life among RSB boxers.
Our Elgin class is held on Tuesday and Thursday from 1 - 2 pm at the Centre of Elgin at 100 Symphony (east side of Elgin, near the downtown area). We are continuing to search for a Saturday instructor in Elgin and will get those classes started as quickly as possible!
If you want to participate in our in-person boxing, you'll need to schedule an assessment. All assessments will take place in Glen Ellyn at Movement Revolution, which handles the Rock Steady Boxing classes in Elgin as well as Glen Ellyn. Each assessment will take approximately 1 - 1.5 hours. It includes gait analysis, two balance screenings, upper and lower body strength, and a goal-setting discussion. Call Movement Revolution now to set up your assessment at (312) 465-3921.
