Greetings!
It's June, so it must be PRIDE!!
Here are some ways you can support your fellow citizens (or celebrate yourself) during Pride month.
-
Educate yourself. There are some fantastic documentaries out there. It's also a great time to restate the values of equality with your kids. I was eleven when I knew I was different, but I didn't talk to anyone about it until I was sixteen. Those were five tough years. Talk to your kids. Hear what they have to say. Make sure they know that you respect everyone and that they can talk to you about anything. Apply some of those active listening skills from our previous newsletters. (many are archived at www.fisherlawpractice.nyc)
-
Go to a virtual event. There are enough virtual tours, sing-a-longs, dance parties, movie festivals and kids story-time events to keep you busy for weeks.
-
If you are comfortable and it's safe, go to an in-person event. Most cities have a pride event or march. From floats and booths, to games and even country line dancing demonstrations(Charlotte, N.C.), they are a lot of fun.
-
Donate. In New York City, nearly half of the homeless youth are from the LGBTQ community. Similarly, teen suicides are disproportionately LGBTQ youth. Donate to your local Gay and Lesbian Center, a local homeless shelter for youth, or supportive housing.
-
Display a pride flag. It's a little thing, but it means the world to folks who feel alone.

New York State Bar Association Webinar: Optimizing You And Your Case For Mediation
Thursday, July 8, 2021, 12:00-1:30pm
Your client’s personal injury tort action is scheduled for mediation and that is good news. But what are your next steps to optimize that opportunity? What is your client’s BATNA? This program will answer these questions and will offer key steps that you must take in advance of mediation, to prepare the case and your client, particularly in complex matters involving liens, infants and incapacitated persons or death actions. The panel will discuss topics from the point of interest of the lawyer, client and mediator or judge facilitating settlement discussion. With our four panelists, you’ll gain insight about how to optimize your presentation of the case at mediation, including tips and strategies for managing conflict with your adversary, masterful listening and effective communication in order to optimize your opportunity for success at mediation.
