President's Message
Casey Cropp
As I write this, it is just days prior to Christmas, knowing you will all have returned to school when you are reading this, hopefully, rested and ready for the second half of the year.
I hope you took the opportunity to unwind, reflect on the blur of classes and events during the first semester, taking a moment to reflect on what you loved and what you wish you could do over… Maybe you were able to pat yourself on the back for those beautiful moments in your classroom, developing those students who have committed to you this year. You’ve provided opportunity for skill development. You’ve allowed a safe place for experimentation. You’ve emboldened confidence and determination. You’ve refined raw talents into musical building blocks – some that have taken your breath away. Shortly the season of gift-giving will be behind us, however you’ve been giving gifts since the beginning of the year!
I trust you did take a moment to savor and enjoy the sparkle in that certain students’ eye as they did something for the very first time at an advanced musical level. Or the way the ensemble tonalities have taken on a rich, mature quality that was only a hope a few short months ago. Recall the musical snapshots that will highlight the early part of the year. I always tended to overlook those peak moments until the end of the year, when many times I had forgotten the early special moments…
I hope that each of you have had a very special holiday break - taking time for yourself and those close to you. Maybe it will have allowed you to come back with an added fire and passion.
And please, make every effort to come together in Colorado Springs at the end of this month for a special time of learning, collegiality and Cultivating Excellence!
See you at the Broadmoor!!
Casey
